The Fruit And Protein Diet For An Effective And Fast Way To Lose Weight

Written by Anjala Farahath  •

With the array of diet fads that have swarmed our lives, we fail to set our hearts upon one diet. It’s like ordering food in a restaurant—the food on the other table always looks good, doesn’t it? But this shouldn’t be the case with diets. There is no one size that fits all when it comes to losing weight (1). If your friend successfully slithered into that bodycon dress after a brief period of keto, and you’re still stuck with those baggy jeans, it’s time for you to try another diet (2). The options are many, but we’re suckers for the traditional diets. And why wouldn’t we be? They are safe, they don’t make you sleep on a hungry stomach, and they are full of whole foods that keep you feeling full all day. So, what are we talking about? It’s the fruits and protein diet!

If there is one dietary component that you can’t do without when on a weight loss journey, it’s definitely protein. Similarly, fruits can be the best ally in your grand plan of eliminating that fat out of your body. Interestingly, protein and fruits work in tandem to catalyze the process of fat loss in the body. Proteins’ nutritional component rapidly helps in recovery and repair of muscle tissues (which is why all those boys with big bodies feast on protein), while fruits prep you with a good dose of carbs and sugar to keep the energy levels high.

We have all learned that proteins are the primary building blocks of our body. The muscles, tendons, enzymes, hormones, neurotransmitters, organs and skin require chunks of protein to carry out their functions. Let’s just say without protein in your body, all the other nutrients are like little headless chickens running around. With a complex structure of amino acids, protein is essential for weight loss as it boosts your metabolism and curbs your appetite (3). It also helps in building muscle and strength (4). The best form of the protein can be sought from animals— ie. meat. If you’re a vegetarian, nuts and soy products, pulses, eggs, and beans can provide you with enough protein. If you’re genuinely looking to lose weight, you should open your arms to this kind of nutrition, because this one is going to give you a major burn—fat burn (5)!

Fruits are like the bad cousin we have been asked to maintain distance from. But, it has only gained a bad reputation for its sugary nature. We’ll tell you why you should get rid of the notion that fruits are bad for you because, come on, fruits are natural sweeteners and they can keep you full for a long time. They are also high in fiber and pectin—both of which are natural fat burners and metabolism boosters (6). Additionally, they are also loaded with antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. The cherry on the cake is that fruits are low in calories but high in the quality of satiety (7). Strawberries, avocados, peaches, berry, grapefruits, whatever may be your pick, they wouldn’t be more than 100 calories. So, you can snack on them, include them in your breakfast, or just eat them with your meals.

Tuna, salmon, or mackerel, whatever you fancy, these are high in protein and low in fat. About 100 grams of these fish can give you up to 30 grams of protein. Most fish are a great source of protein and they are also a powerhouse of omega-3 fatty acids. So, you are basically hitting two birds with one stone.

2. Spill The Beans

We’re spilling the beans — soybeans help in reducing cholesterol levels and are known to have anti-carcinogenic properties (8), (9). So, if you were brooding about not having enough protein options in plant-based sources, you need to stop. Beans are rich in proteins and can build that muscle and burn that fat.

If meat isn’t your thing, and if veggies and you don’t talk anymore, you always have the good old nuts and seeds. They are high in protein, fiber, minerals, and omega-3 fatty acids.
Another protein source you can go nuts over is cheese. Go for non-fat varieties of cheese. They are loaded with protein too. A chunk of non-fat mozzarella cheese has about 30% protein. So, that’s a reason for you to actually say cheese, right?
