When we meet new people, we normally try to be as discreet as possible about ourselves. The more we get comfortable around them, we slowly unfold ourselves and let them know us as we truly are. However, there are some common habits that spill our personality traits more than we would want them to. It can be as common as the way we carry our bags, or how we click a selfie. Knowing about them can help you understand people better and also you can rectify these habits so people get to meet a more confident and attractive side of you. Read on to know them all!

1. The Way You Carry Your Bag

One would think, how difficult can carrying a bag be! But, the catch is not how you carry the bag, but your body language while carrying the bag. Hanging your bag on your elbow shows confidence and professionalism. If you are walking to an interview, consider carrying your purse on your elbow. If you have a clutch, you can carry it under your arm or hold it in your hand. If you want to look carefree, put your bag on your shoulder.

One thing you should avoid doing is letting the bag dangle while you hold it by its handles. It may show the insecure side of you and doing so puts more pressure on your shoulders. Make sure you maintain your posture and carry things that don’t make your hands ache.

2. The Way You Click A Selfie

Who would have thought, the way you click a selfie could also speak tons about you! It is seen that friendly people mostly click a selfie from below or by placing the camera in front of them. This shows that they do not care much about their double chin and want to save the moment as it is. On the other hand, it is believed that people who click a duck selfie by placing the camera high above their head are not very confident about their looks and want to appear leaner than they are in the photo. While an occasional duck-face selfie is adorable, try not clicking all your selfies like that. Variations in angles will make the pictures look more beautiful.

3. Your Walking Style

The way you walk can spill more about you than any other habit you possess. Your walking style, body language, posture, and pace show how confident you are. If you slouch and keep your hands in your pocket when you walk, it shows you are underconfident and insecure. If you walk tall and have your hands by your side, it shows you are confident. If you want to have a good impression on someone, keep your head up and maintain a confident gait.

4. The Way You Shake Hands

A simple handshake can talk a lot about how you are as a person. Always keep your handshake firm yet gentle. The other person should not feel you are intimidated by them, so keep it short but confident. If your handshake is limp, it shows you are underconfident and scared, which does not make a good impression on the other person.

5. Spending Time On Your Phone

If you spend more time on your phone than enjoying your surroundings or talking to the people around you, it shows you are an anxious person who probably wants to let go of reality and spend time in the virtual world. When you are with someone, resist the temptation to check on your phone every time, even if you have notifications pouring in.

6. Going Late To Work

Your punctuality is an indicator of how interested you are in your work. If you are always late to your office and leave early, it may leave an impression that you are not very keen on working even if you give a hundred percent at your work. Make sure you plan your schedule accordingly so you are always on time.

7. The Way You Hang Your Toilet Paper

There are only two ways to hang your toilet paper in your washroom, outwards or inwards. But, if there is a way to hang it that makes you appear more confident, then why not do it! It is believed that if you place your toilet paper where it rolls over, you are a dominant person, and if it rolls inwards, you are submissive. However, there are no studies to prove this point so you need to decide if you would want to change the habit or not!

Creating a good impression on people is easier said than done. Sometimes even things we do subconsciously leave a lasting impression on people around us. Detecting them and working on them can help you improve your public image and work toward a more confident and welcoming life.
