Tying a belt around your waist while you eat is a great way to lose weight! Sounds strange, doesn’t it? Well, when you tie up your waist tightly with a belt, you know when you are about to enter the overeating zone. As the belt tightens, you get a signal to stop eating!

2. Drink From A Tall Glass

We put in a lot of calories when we drink our favourite beverages. The amount of calorie intake increases significantly when the summer steps in. Did you know that a glass of juice can contain about 20 grams of sugar and 120 calories? By picking a shorter and wider glass we may end up pouring in more liquid than when we pick a taller and longer glass. So, besides looking more chic and charming, tall glasses can help you achieve your dream weight too!

3. Give Meals Some Quality Time

Modern day living and the time crunch it brings to the table is real. Seldom do we find time for ourselves in our busy schedule. At times we skip meals or we eat in a rush. Skipping meals can be disastrous, but eating fast can make one eat too much. Also, when we eat too fast we may end up drinking more water; hence, ruining the digestive functions. Make sure you eat peacefully and spend time chewing and enjoying the food.

4. Soak Yourself In Hot Water

A study conducted at Loughborough University on 14 men endeavoured to find if a hot water bath helps in weight loss. Half of the participants exercised on an exercise bike for an hour, while the rest soaked themselves in a 40 degrees Celsius bath. The results indicated that soaking in a hot tub of water is as beneficial as working out at the gym (1)!

5. Add Fruits To Your Diet

If you put a bowl of fruits on the dining table, you will certainly reach for it when hunger strikes rather than looking for anything else. By making this a practice, one subconsciously chooses to eat healthy. Fruits are rich in fibre and water besides other essential nutrients. Eating fruits would make one feel full and hence, one can easily abstain from bingeing.

6. Take That Last Seat

When you are out on that brunch date with friends and there is a huge spread of goodies at the centre of the table to pick, make sure you find the corner seat. Keeping those delicacies far from sight can tempt you lesser and hence, decrease the chances of overeating. Even if you feel tempted, you wouldn’t bother someone to pass you those dishes often!

7. Invent New Traditions

It is great to invent new traditions and break the age-old and fattening ones! Instead of eating cake on your birthday or opening a champagne bottle, break the monotony by offering your friends and yourself generous helpings of something healthy and delicious. If you like cake too much, try inviting your friends to a Zumba dance session before you kick off the celebrations.

8. Chop Food Into Small Pieces

Cutting food into small pieces and taking those small pieces on your plate is a great way to trick your brain. Small pieces would make your brain feel there is more food on your plate. On similar lines, taking a small plate would be equally effective. If your brain feels there is a lot to eat, it makes you feel full faster and hence, keeps a tab on bingeing.

9. Put Your Imagination At Work

Before you dig into your favourite chocolate cake or pizza or anything that you just cannot resist, imagine yourself devouring that food. The chances of someone overeating significantly drop when they imagine themselves eating (2).

The 9 habits enlisted above can easily be inculcated into one’s everyday lives, isn’t it?. Anything that makes one keep overeating at bay and gives greater health benefits, such as relieving muscular tension or keeping the skin supple (a hot water bath is an example) is worth adopting. I am already preparing myself to make these healthy habits a second nature to me, how about you?
