Most of us live in discomfort as we are scared to face our fears — the inevitable truths of our life. Afraid of the unknown, we choose to suffer from the devil known to us rather than venturing out into an uncharted territory. But isn’t uncertainty one of the most beautiful things in life?
We need to acknowledge our shortcomings and embrace our realities that give us a head start to live a much fuller life. Here is a list of 8 such truths about life that most of us are reluctant to admit, but accepting them only makes life a lot easier.
1. Memories Aren’t Always Accurate
If you have ever played Chinese whispers, you’ll be able to apply the rules of this game in your real life too (with respect to memories). Our brain segregates our memories into the good ones and also the ones we refuse to recall. By doing so, our brain creates its own memories (false ones) and we end up believing them (1). If you’ve observed, we tend to recall either the beginning or the last part of a recent memory, not the whole.
2. We Are Never Born Equal In Society
As much as we would love to believe that everyone is equal around us, deep down we know that it’s not the case. Some of us are born in a well-to-do family, while some of us are born in a hunger-stricken or a below-the-poverty-line family. And the decisions we make in life are all outlined by the circumstances we live in. Therefore, we need to understand that not all of us are born equal. But, yes, we can change what we make of our lives.
3. No One Will Love You If You Don’t Love Yourself
We all want to be loved, but how exactly do we make that happen? What you seek lies within you. We need to understand that we are the center of our own lives. We must learn to love ourselves first, accept all the flaws and the gifts we are bestowed with. All of you should love all of you. Only then will the people around us love us for what we are. So, be your own control centre.
4. Nobody Owes You Anything In This World
All of us have our own distinct traits, some of which might be capable of making us shine in the outside world. But remember that if you are born with a talent, it doesn’t mean that the world will instantly lay out a red carpet for you to walk on and reach a royal abode. The world owes you nothing. It’s up to us if we work hard and make the most of our opportunities. It’s a lone fight, peeps!
5. We Have More Time Than We Think
We all know that time waits for none. But it doesn’t imply that we do not have any time at all. In a week, we have 186 hours of time—that makes a hell lot of time for us to do something productive in life. We don’t really need a psychology test to know about a person if we understand his/her time management skills—which is apparently sufficient enough to give us an idea about the person’s nature (2).
6. The Perfect Life Is An Illusion!
Waiting for the “right time” to start something or change something in your life merely equals to wasting your life. There’s never a right time to do things, but there is “now”—the only time that makes sense to talk about. Therefore, don’t sit on that wait button, just put the first gear, accelerate a little, and leave that clutch that you are holding on to in life. Life is now!
7. Be Perfect For You, Not For Others
Everyone has some inhibition or the other about themselves, and it’s totally okay to do so. We’re sure even Victoria’s Secret models have had moments of self-doubt in life. Never change yourself to please someone else. Embrace your flaws, your curves, your sensitivity because to the world, you’ll never be enough. Hence, what matters is – are you enough for yourself? Focus on yourself, because that’s what matters in the end.
8. Life Was Never A Fair Game To Play
What is the best way to live life? Just minus the expectations! Your nature of being kind and caring towards a person doesn’t necessarily get mirrored by others. Just like how not all evil deeds are accounted for, not all good deeds get the recognition they deserve. Live your life to the fullest, but never expect too much out of it.
Live in the present, and don’t forget to wear your heart on your sleeve. Accept everything that life throws at you. Let’s be open to the wisdom that life gives us.
