When we’re struggling with a health issue that is too embarrassing to talk about, we often choose to simply keep mum and avoid asking for any medical help. However, as a result, things just get worse and the only thing that is left afterward is regret. This regret can be avoided if we start being a little careful and observant about our bodily changes.
There are multiple reasons why we tend to be a little careless when it comes to health. We don’t take a disease seriously until and unless it starts hampering our daily routines and chores. Needless to say, this is a very wrong approach. There is absolutely no point in waiting for a symptom to change into a disease, in order to seek treatment.
Any normal or abnormal change is a sign of our body trying to communicate something to us. These signs shouldn’t be ignored and should be taken care of as soon as one discovers them. But amidst our busy lives, rapidly changing lifestyles, and day to day hustle, we tend to ignore all these until we cannot. Here in this article, we will be discussing a few of those issues.
1. The Smelly ‘Vajayjay’
All you ladies out there! Let’s admit it – this is one problem that we just don’t want to accept! I mean no woman would want to believe that her nether regions have an odd smell. But believing so, by no means helps eradicate the problem!
The popular notion attached to this problem revolves around cleanliness. But let us clarify – it has nothing to do with the cleanliness or hygiene of a woman at all. This particular problem traces its roots to the chemical or pH imbalances caused by excessive growth of a bacteria called ‘lactobacillus’. In scientific terms, this imbalance is referred to as, ‘bacterial vaginosis’ (1). Women who don’t take this situation seriously are at risk of developing not only STIs but miscarriages too.
2. Lack Of Sexual Desire
This is a topic that people choose to not talk about altogether. And, no, it certainly isn’t usually due to boredom or a lack of attraction felt by your partner. Due to this lack of communication and information, relationships can get wreaked and people end up falling apart, when in reality they are not at fault at all!
This problem in medical terms is called as ‘hypoactive sexual desire disorder’ or HSDD (2). This is a fairly common symptom for women suffering from PCOD, PCOS or menopause (3). Basically, any kind of hormonal or psychological issue can be a reason behind HSDD.
3. The ‘Poop’ Issue
This is a very common, yet severely embarrassing problem that literally nobody wants to discuss. Who discusses poop anyway? You mention ‘poop’ in a group of people and all faces around you turn crimson red.
But on a serious note, if you or someone you know is having problems while passing stool, then there is a serious need for medical help. Any kind of pain, blood or mucous while releasing stool, highlights multiple problems which could be related to your digestive system or any organ in particular.
4. Frequent Sweating
Sweating is a normal bodily function but an excess of anything is bad. If you constantly find yourself drenched in sweat and blame it on the heat and sun outside, then now is the time ‘to pull your socks’ and seek medical help because you might be suffering from hyperhidrosis (4).
This is a disorder which can be a symptom for some other ailment. Letting your doctor know about it can prove to be helpful in tracing that ailment.
5. Chronic Stress
With changing lifestyles and little personal time left to ourselves, we often find ourselves stressed. There are times when stress serves as a driving force for betterment, but when it becomes intolerable and frequent, one might want to seek a therapist or a doctor. Chronic stress is the root cause of multiple other health issues like blood pressure, diabetes, depression, and anxiety (5). Remember that dealing with stress is not your personal problem alone and there are people who can help you handle it.
6. Changes In Nipples
This can be very embarrassing to talk about but at the same time, the gravity of the problem cannot be ignored. If you notice any kind of discoloration, change in size, ulcers, white discharge or a lump in your breast region, please fix an appointment with your doctor as soon as possible. The abovementioned symptoms can be a sign of breast cancer (6).
7. Stained Teeth
If you have stained teeth owing to your tea or caffeine addiction, chances are your mouth is home to multiple unhealthy bacteria that are causing plaque. Visiting your dentist is not always a possible option, so consider oil swishing. This process helps dissolve plaque and restore the natural shade of your teeth (7).
Remember that one can get almost everything again in life except a healthy body. Hence, ditch your discomfort and defend your greatest gift – your health.
