With our never-ending list of things to do, it’s not uncommon to postpone getting a haircut and tell ourselves that it’s no big deal. The Earth may keep rotating on its axis, but if you go too long without a trim, you might be doing more harm than good to your hair. Snipping your strands can help you maintain long hair in the long term. Queries like how often you should have a haircut according to your hair type are discussed below.

Why Does Haircut Matter?

A hair trim is only a preventative measure that removes around 2 mm of hair. It is not designed to alter the hair’s style or enhance volume. A haircut, on the other hand, is more extensive than a trim and is intended to alter the natural form of the hair. You may “dust” your endings, which means trimming them (often approximately 1/4 inch) in places where they are uneven. You may only need a trim once a month if you’ve been simultaneously paying visits to the salon. This is because our hair grows around half an inch each month. Getting frequent cuts or trims is important for hair health even if you’ve got no plans to change your hairdo and are instead planning to let it grow out. Regular haircuts, especially of the ends, which happens to be the oldest and most brittle area of your hair, can help you keep your hair in good condition without impacting the pace at which your hair grows out of your head.

When you get your haircut, you get rid of the frail, split ends. The split ends in your hair can weaken or break the hair shaft, resulting in shorter hair. If you want your hair to last longer and look good with less effort, trim the ends. The fact is that getting your hair trimmed regularly will not cause your hair to grow rapidly. But, your hair’s length and overall health will be preserved. You’re doing more damage than good to your hair by not cutting off your split ends.

Too frequent haircuts might impede hair growth and make it impossible to achieve longer styles. With time, hair that isn’t regularly trimmed might begin to resemble a straw. The question is, how often are “frequent” occurrences and how uncommon are “rare” ones? You should have your hair cut in a style that complements your hair’s natural texture. To keep up a classy appearance, we researched how often one should have a haircut for various hair types.

1. Curly Hair

Hair like this may go longer without a cut. This is because even after it begins to grow, it won’t much alter in appearance. Trim your hair once every six months if you just want to encourage growth. If you want to keep your hair at a particular length and style, cut it every three months.

2. Coily Hair

As you know, textured hair is typically quite dry. You should get your haircut every 6-12 weeks if you have curly hair and want to keep your curls. If your hair is already damaged from heat styling or dye, getting a trim before every dye job is recommended.

3. Straight Hair

Keeping your fine hair in order may be a lot of work. If you want to keep your straight or wavy hair in good condition, regular reshaping without excessive cutting is the key. Trim your hair once every three months, or every ten weeks, for optimal results.

4. Thick Hair

Thicker hair can go without a trim for a longer period because of its “forgiving” nature. But, it might drive you mad if strands of hair get everywhere. A thick mane might benefit from a trim every six months to keep it from looking disheveled.

5. Thin Hair

Thinner hair is more likely to break with a single tug of your comb. That is why it’s best to get a trim every two months to maintain your cut and avoid hair breakage.

6. Damaged Hair

It’s recommended to have a trim every 8 weeks if your hair is sensitive to split ends, you use styling tools, or you color your hair frequently (6-12 weeks). By doing so, you may maintain healthier hair. Trim your hair frequently to avoid breakage and dryness.

Trimming your hair keeps your hair healthier and safe from damage, however, that is not all your hair needs. Make sure you supplement your hair the right way and keep your scalp clean and nourished at all times. So what is your hair type? Let us know in the comments section!
