Dream. That’s what you were taught to do when you were just a girl with two pigtails. To dream big, to stay focused and to make it happen. But somewhere along the way, your dreams took a backseat and you were lost in the chaos of life. But maybe you just let your fears become a hindrance towards achieving your #DreamsOfProgress.”

But dreams are made of magic; a touch of determination can turn them into reality! Now it’s time for you to rediscover your focus and make all your dreams come true because YOU CAN. You have it in you to go against all odds and let nothing stand in your way. And Stayfree is here to propagate just that! Your Dreams Of Progress are too important to be given up. Just like they didn’t for the World badminton player and Olympic Silver Medalist, our very own, P.V. Sindhu!

This simple girl next door from a humble background overcame all odds, including her periods, to become what she is today – a force to reckon with in the world of badminton.

Today P.V. Sindhu serves as an inspiration to all young girls and women alike. And she’s here to inspire, encourage and help you achieve your dreams in association with Stayfree’s #DreamsOfProgress initiative.

So to get you past the days when you feel like giving up and to get you back on track of your #DreamsOfProgress, we’ve got 10 pearls of wisdom from this sports star that can fill you with the hope of a better, successful and glorious tomorrow.

  1. “Nothing should stop you in your pursuit of dreams, particularly not your periods.”

It’s not uncommon for girls in our country to abandon hopes of making it big because of their periods. But Sindhu’s advice is not to let your periods stand in the way of your goals. She never let it stop herself. Despite her long and grueling practice sessions! Her secret? Using Stayfree Secure XL sanitary napkins that allowed her to go on all day long without worrying about her periods.

  1.  “The greatest asset is a strong mind. If I know someone is training harder than I am, I have no excuses.”

As long as you set your mind to something, you can do anything you want. No matter how impossible it seems at the moment.

  1. “It’s your belief in yourself that keeps you going, especially when you are coming back from a loss or injury.”

Obstacles will keep coming in your life, halting your journey and making you believe that there’s no going forward from here. But you have to keep the faith alive and keep going.

  1. “Nothing is impossible in sport, or for that matter in any field, if we put in the hard work. There should not be any inhibitions once you set goals for yourself. Come what may, stay focused and one day you will be there.”

Sindhu’s mantra for success is simple: work hard and maintain that focus. As long as you can bring yourself to do that, nothing can stop you from getting what you want.

  1. “I would be easily affected by things. When I lost points, I would get nervous or be very sad. I have been working hard to strengthen my attitude; I have focused on my mind game and that really helped me.”

You have to have the right attitude if you want to get to the top rung of the ladder. Failures will come your way but the important thing is to learn from them and take them positively.

  1. “What I have learnt is anything is possible, anything can happen from any moment.”

That just says it all.

  1. “I hope I can give my best.”

These might seem like very simple and ordinary words but some of the wisest truths are the simplest ones. Always remember to give your best at whatever you do.

  1. “It’s tough. I will bounce back.”

Back in 2013 when she had lost a couple of matches to Saina Nehwal and Spaniard Carolina Marin is when Sindhu uttered these words. No matter what strikes you, it’s important to recover and come back with greater energy.

  1. “I was just thinking about the game. If you play really well, you will automatically win the game, and a medal.”

As mentioned before, all you have to do is give your best shot. Success will automatically follow.

  1. “I have achieved a lot, but for me this is just the start. There’s a lot more to achieve.”

Just like Sindhu it is important to stay humble and believe that you still have a lot to do. The dream must go on.

So to all the young girls of the country, take a leaf from Sindhu’s book and remember to stay focused, stay free and follow your #DreamsOfProgress!
