Home Remedies To Treat Pimple On The Eyelid

Pimples are considered to be a very common skin problem. They can crop up on any part of our body. It’s quite common for them to surface on our eyes as well. The dust particles in the atmosphere and the unhygienic environment we live in act as the red carpet for the sty, the pimple that grows on the eyelid.

Now, not only does a sty look quite unsightly but it also causes quite discomfort to the sufferer. It makes it difficult for the person to open their eyes. There is a feeling of heaviness. If you’re curious as to how you should identify them, they occur as tiny lumps on the edge of eyelids, and yes, they look swollen (1).

What Do You Do About A Sty?

A sty is usually caused because of the infection in the oil glands in the eyelid. It is caused due to the action of the bacterium, Staphylococcus (2).

Don’t panic if you get a sty on your eyelid. Most of these pimples are harmful and won’t affect your sight. Self-care measures or certain home remedies will help provide relief in this condition. However, if you notice that even after following self-care remedies, the pimple continues to cause pain and irritation, we suggest you visit a doctor immediately. For now, let’s look at some of the home remedies that can help you treat this issue effectively.

Home Remedies To Treat Pimple On The Eyelid

A. Warm Compress

This technique has a host of benefits. No wonder it is used for a lot of treatments that are aimed at toning down pain. A hot compress increases blood circulation which helps to heal the swelling and it also drains away the pus. In addition to that, the warmth provides comfort and soothes the patient.

How To Use It:

  • Take some hot water in a tub or bowl.
  • Immerse a piece of clean cloth or towel into the hot water and squeeze the excess water out.
  • Lie down on a flat surface with your eyes closed. Now, place the warm towel on the eyelid where the sty is.
  • Let the towel rest on it for a about 3–5 minutes.
  • You need to repeat this at least 3–4 times a day until you see the pus coming out.
  • When the pus oozes out, clean it neatly and take care not to damage your eyes in the process.

B. Turmeric

Any skin condition can be cured by turmeric because of its natural antiseptic properties (3). It not only helps in healing the pimple, it even prevents another one from growing.

How To Use It:

  • Add a tablespoon of turmeric to 250 ml of water.
  • Boil this on a stovetop till the mixture is reduced to half of its original quantity.
  • Let the mixture cool down.
  • If you think there can be any lumps or any impurity, strain the mixture with the help of a cloth.
  • Wash the pimple with this mixture 2–3 times a day for a couple of days until it gets dissolved.

C. Green Tea

Green tea is known for its anti-inflammatory properties. It contains tannic acid which stops the infection from spreading further (4). It helps to reduce pain and tone down the inflammation.

How To Use It:

  • Make yourself a cup of green tea by dipping the tea in a cup of hot water.
  • Now, remove the tea bag. Squeeze the excess water out of it and place this warm tea bag on the affected eye.
  • Let it sit there for about 5 minutes.
  • Repeat this 2-3 times every day until there is no sign of the pimple.

D. Cloves

People who love natural treatments swear by the pain-relieving properties of cloves (5). Its antibacterial properties are all you need to cure your eyelids off that stubborn sty.

How To Use It:

  • Take around 5–6 pods of clove and soak it in some water for 10 minutes.
  • Remove the cloves from the water once you think that the water is infused with it.
  • Now take a clean piece of cloth and soak it into the clove-infused water.
  • Comfort your affected eye by placing this cloth on it for a couple of minutes.
  • Continue to do this for a couple of days till the pimple has visibly subsided.

E. Aloe Vera

Aloe vera has immense anti-inflammatory properties that will reduce the redness and the swelling of the sty (6). The cooling effect of aloe vera will soothe the pain.

How To Use It:

  • Extract aloe gel from the aloe vera. You can also buy organic aloe vera gel from the nearest market. Make sure it has no additives.
  • Rub the gel over the affected eye gently.
  • Leave it there for a good 20 minutes and wash with lukewarm water.
  • Do this thrice a week.
