On the 5th of September, we get to celebrate the gurus, mentors, and professors who guide us through not just school, but life as well. Teacher’s Day is celebrated on the birth anniversary of an incredible teacher named Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. Dr. Radakrishnan was a scholar, a politician, a philosopher, and an exemplary teacher who had dedicated his whole life towards educating and shaping the future of India’s young guns. Thanks to his hard work, many of us can study and follow whatever path we want to. Teachers in this country are often seen as next to God and revered for their capabilities. They’ve found their way into TV shows, films, songs, and so many more. So on this day, let’s take a look at seven wonderful teachers from Bollywood films that we all adored and wished we could meet IRL:

1. Rishi Kapoor As Santosh Duggal In Do Dooni Chaar

In Do Dooni Chaar, we get to see the late Rishi Kapoor in the role of a middle-aged math professor named Santosh Duggal. Santosh is a middle-class, scooter riding professor who shows us the hardships and not-so-ordinary life of a guru. He juggles two jobs and tries to instill the passion he has for math in his students. Although math is not the favorite of many students, we genuinely appreciate that Santosh Duggal tried hard to make his students learn and enjoy the subject. Santosh Duggal and the hilarious antics of his children will surely make this teacher one to remember.

2. Debraj Sahai In Black

In the film Black, Amitabh Bachchan essayed the influential role of Debraj Sahai. The film was directed by legendary film director, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and followed the story of a visually challenged and deaf girl named Michelle Mcnally (Rani Mukerji) and her teacher, Debraj. Debraj goes to any extent possible to tutor and mentor his students and comes up with innovative methods to teach her so she can fulfill all her dreams. While his teaching methods might come across as a bit unorthodox and harsh, they prove to be quite fruitful in the long run.

3. Ram Nikumbh In Taare Zameen Par

In Taare Zameen Par, Aamir Khan plays the role of a talented and hardworking art professor named Ram Shankar Nikumbh. It takes a whole lot of love, commitment, and hard work to be good at your job, and Ram’s character just proves how good he is at it. Not only does he inspire us with his incredible skills, but he definitely brought tears to our eyes as well as laughter when he acted in this film. Ram was the beacon of light that Ishaan Awasthi needed to succeed and do well. He brought proper order to Ishaan’s haywire, confused and unfortunate life. Their student-teacher relationship is one of the most special ones in Bollywood films. We love that Ram’s character never treated Ishaan differently when he found out he had dyslexia and modified his teaching to suit his student’s needs. Thanks to this film, there was more awareness about learning disabilities like dyslexia and dyscalculia.

4. Raj Aryan Malhotra In Mohabbatein

Shah Rukh Khan plays that one teacher we all wish we had back when we were in school. Not only was he multi-talented and encouraging of his students, but he was always composed and calm and didn’t mind breaking the rules every now and then. Raj Malhotra knew how to leave quite the impression on his students and helped spread the message of love among them. Not only did he teach his students, but he took time to get to know them and show them that life is not just about being disciplined and getting good grades.

5. Anand Kumar In Super 30

Hrithik Roshan plays Mathematician Anand Kumar and inspires his students to give their best. This one is definitely worth watching! Anand Kumar is a teacher who shares a great bond with his students and guides them on a path to realize their dreams. We honestly would have loved to be part of his excellent Super 30.

6. Naina Mathur In Hitchki

Naina Mathur has to hands down be one of the coolest and most open-minded teachers we have seen in Bollywood films. Despite suffering from a verbal condition, Tourette’s syndrome, she managed to surpass every single obstacle that comes her way. She serves both the schools and the students dedicatedly. Naina’s commitment and passion towards helping her students achieve good grades and develop into kind and knowledgeable individuals truly brought tears to our eyes.

7. Chandni Chopra In Main Hoon Na

In Main Hoon Na, Sushmita Sen plays the role of Chandni, a gorgeous teacher with the style of a supermodel. While our love for her is purely because she is charismatic, vivacious, and elegant, we bet she was a great teacher too. I think every single one of us can relate to Shah Rukh Khan’s character when the violins would start to play each time Chandni walked into a room. Who hasn’t had an itty bitty crush on their teacher, amirite? *wink wink*

Teachers are incredible and do not get the credit that they deserve. So if you have a favorite teacher, drop her a sweet message and let her know that she inspired you! Do let us know all of your thoughts in the comment section below!
