The trailer of the upcoming Kangana Ranaut film, Thailavi, just dropped, and we are here for it! The film is based on the life story of the iconic actress and former politician, J. Jayalalitha. The trailer has sparked waves across the country with its songs and acting. Thalaivi will document the life of Jayalalitha, from her entry into cinema to her entry into politics and, finally, her journey towards becoming the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Although she was from a Tamilian family, she was born in the former Mysore State and was fluent in Kannada. Besides speaking Kannada, Jayalalitha was also fluent in every South Indian language as well as Hindi and English. Her career in politics was as successful, if not more, as her career in acting, and she had a massive following in not just Tamil Nadu, but many other Southern Indian states. Unfortunately, she passed away at age 68 in December of 2016. Now thanks to the trailer of Thalaivi, we’ve gotten to see some of Jayalalitha’s most iconic looks recreated on-screen by Kangana Ranaut. If you haven’t watched the trailer yet, here’s what’s in store for you:

1. 60s Style Light And Frosty Baby Pink Lips

Back in the era of your parents, light shades of pink were all the rage. If you were born in the 1960/70s, you would have noticed that women used to rock lighter shades and didn’t go too crazy when it came to experimenting with colors. We get to see Kangana performing a classical dance for a film as Jayalalitha in the trailer, and her makeup looks are extraordinary! During that time, even Hollywood actress and Breakfast At Tiffany’s lead, Audrey Hepburn, was spotted in light pink shades.

2. Bold Liner And Brown Lips

We have to say; this was one of our most favorite looks from the trailer! Kangana’s beautiful curls, bold brown lips, and elaborate eye-liner truly steal the show when it comes to makeup looks. The entire look was topped off with a simple red bindi painted in the center of her forehead.

3. Cleopatra Inspired Double-Winged Eyeliner

Kangana styled her hair in the style of Elizabeth Taylor’s Cleopatra and wore the iconic look incredibly well. The liner is bold, theatrical, and sharp and was something that was extremely common in the 60s and 70s. This look was spotted on many Indian actresses like Sharmila Tagore, Hema Malini, and more.

4. 70s-Style Chunky Curtain Bangs

For all you curtain bang lovers, we’ve got some news for you! This style is back in fashion these days, and you can even try channeling Kangana’s curtain bangs look from the trailer. The look was trendy during the 1970s. We like how Kangana wore her hair long and with a cute hairband.

5. Vintage 50s Style Hair With Bows

This 50s style hairdo is really something we adore and aspire to recreate. It reminds us of the hyperfeminine style of glamor that was popular in the post-war era. Although it wasn’t common in the 60s and 70s, it was still quite popular in those days.

6. Kangana’s Blunt Fringe And Thick Black Eyeliner

Like a true 60s star, in the trailer, Kangana’s eyes were winged dramatically. Kangana also wore her hair up in a poof, and her hair was made up in a blunt but short hairstyle.

7. Cropped Hair With A Bow And Bangs

With her lob (long bob), thick bangs, and cute yellow bow, Kangana also channeled fresh teen innocence. If you want to recreate this hairstyle, you’d better be carrying a whole lot of hairspray!

8. 60s Style Bouffant

During the 1960s, most popular actresses followed a specific type of hairstyle, almost like it was a uniform! They styled their hair up in tall, bouffant hairdos and wore teal, light blue, and even turquoise shades of outfits. They also wore a classic and super elegant cat-eye look with their cool-toned outfits. From Saira Banu to Mumtaz, many actresses were spotted rocking this look.

9. “Sadhna Hairstyle” With Winged Liner

If you have parents who grew up in the 1960s, you’ve probably heard of a Bollywood actress called Sadhna. Kangana channeled Sadhna’s hairstyle in the trailer and her iconic short fringe.

Judging by how eye-catching the trailer of Thalaivi is, we bet the film will be just as exciting. We cannot wait to see how Kangana Ranaut channels the role of a person as iconic as J. Jayalalitha. Are you excited to catch this film? Thalaivi is going to be released on the 10th of September. Watch the trailer here.
