Getting married can be the most beautiful, new, yet nerve-wracking feeling to exist. It is definitely not a daily occurrence, which is why butterflies and nervousness are inevitable. There is a lot to be done along with hours of mental preparation to get things started slow and steady. Sometimes, that leads to a lack of self-care and is pushed right before the wedding until the last minute. However, besides planning out your wedding and buying that perfect saree or lehenga, you need to also make sure that you take good care of your skin and ensure that it is looking its glowing best on your big day. If you are someone who doesn’t tend to pay much attention to self-care and taking care of your skin, then this is the article for you. As incredible as your makeup artist might be, they may not be able to fully cover up large pimples and acne without making you look like you’re caked in makeup. You can cover up your acne, but it will be very difficult to fake a glow. So here are a couple of tips you should keep in mind while preparing for your big day:

1. Do: Consume Foods Rich in Vitamin C

Fruits that contain vitamin C are really great for health and can give your skin a natural glow. vitamin C is also enriched with important antioxidants that can protect against skin damage caused by exposure to the sun. It also aids in the production of collagen and helps fight any free radicals that might cause your skin to age. Besides consuming vitamin C supplements, you should eat foods like oranges, papayas, lemons, berries like raspberries, blueberries, and many more types of fruits.

2. Don’t: Load Up On Sugary Drinks

Besides being terrible for your teeth, sugary drinks can have a terrible effect on your skin as well. You want your smile to be perfect and go with your glowing skin, right? Sugary drinks can also stain your teeth and generally make you look dull and lethargic. Plus, the caffeine content present in most soft drinks is quite heavy. Hence, we would advise you to stick to drinking homemade juices and smoothies instead to cool off (1). They also cause fat accumulation and affect your liver health.

3. Do: Apply Turmeric Face Packs

Turmeric can help detoxify your skin and make it look absolutely flawless. There is a reason why many weddings include the “Haldi ceremony” as a marriage custom. Adding turmeric to your diet will help get rid of many skin problems that might be plaguing you and you can even consume it with milk before your bedtime (2). Besides consuming turmeric through food, you can also pamper yourself with some homemade turmeric face packs. Just make sure you don’t go too overboard and end up with yellow-looking skin on your big day. There is a reason why the ceremony is scheduled 3-4 days before the D-day. There will be enough time for you to get rid of the yellow tint from your skin and end up with the bridal glow.

4. Don’t: Skip Exercising

Exercise might be the last thing on your mind when your wedding day is close to approaching, but it is as important as following a good diet. Skipping exercise in the weeks leading to your wedding might lead to you not just gaining excess weight but also suffering from random breakouts due to stress. Hence, it is important to follow a strict routine and regimen while preparing for your wedding. It could be as simple as taking out 30 minutes every day to just relax and destress with some yoga and meditation or going for a walk in the late evenings.

5. Do: Eat A Diet Rich In Vitamin E

Vitamin E is a wonder vitamin and can provide your skin with numerous benefits. Just like with vitamin C, it’s a good idea to consume vitamin E supplements and make use of moisturizing creams and lotions that contain vitamin E in them. Besides that, you should also ensure that you eat a diet that is rich in vitamin E. Vitamin E can be found in avocados, olives, almonds, and even coconuts. These vitamin E-dense delicious foods can help cleanse your skin naturally and make it glow beautifully.

6. Don’t: Binge On Fast Or Fried Food

There’s no better way to suffer from a random acne breakout than to go crazy on fast food or fried food. We get that you may be stressed out because of the wedding and might want to indulge in a little cheat day every now and then but it is important that you watch what you eat. If you are someone who already has acne-prone skin, then going overboard with fried food can cause you to break out even more. Hence, it’s a good idea to try your best to eat clean before your wedding.

7. Do: Make Use Of Aloe Vera To Treat Acne

You can find tonnes of cosmetics and skincare products that contain aloe vera and it can be a blessing to sensitive acne-prone skin. Aloe vera can help soothe the inflammation caused by acne and even help fade away blemishes. However, that’s not just the only way to use aloe vera. You can also have aloe vera in the form of syrup in smoothies, on salads, and as juice.

8. Don’t: Eat A Lot Of Maida Containing Foods (White Flour)

While maida can make for a highly beneficial face pack and can actually help you from a cosmetics point of view, it is always advised to not eat too much maida. If you eat maida in the form of cakes, pasta, samosas and more, you will be consuming a lot of harmful ingredients like monosodium glutamate and fats (3). It will cause last-minute acne and pimple breakout which will look even more horrible if you try to cover the bumpy skin with makeup.

9. Do: Eat Lots Of Green Leafy Vegetables

Yes, your mom was right when she told you to eat leafy greens and vegetables. There’s no better way to get a smooth and glowing complexion than to eat healthy vegetables. Green leafy vegetables contain helpful nutrients like fiber, vitamins, and minerals and are also low in calories at the same time. Make sure that you load up on a good dose of spinach, cabbage, lettuce, kale, and other leafy greens if you want your skin to get that natural glow. If you still have the palette of a teen, do some mind control in order to look bomb for your wedding.

Yes, we understand that the days leading to your wedding can be stressful and you probably want to gorge on all your favorite food items to destress, but following a strict routine is only for your benefit. It’s important to remember that all of the restrictions will be totally worth it. Do let us know your thoughts about this article in the comment section below!
