There are plenty of gorgeous Indian celebrities who’ve graced the Cannes red carpet over the years. Actresses like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor, and Deepika Padukone are regulars at the Cannes Film Festival and are known for rocking super bold and sometimes even outlandish outfits. The Cannes red carpet is one of the best platforms for famous fashion designers to dress up their muses in the best outfits they can find. It’s the one time of the year when celebrities get to don their favorite gowns and other designer wear without seeming too “EXTRA”.

1. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
Aishwarya Rai is no stranger to the Cannes red carpet. She made her Cannes debut in 2002 after her film Devdas was premiered at the film festival. Over the years, her style and sense of fashion have evolved tremendously and she has dazzled and impressed numerous fashion critics with her looks. This futuristic golden Jean-Louis Sabaji gown that she wore in 2019 was super memorable in particular. It featured a layered train that formed a lotus flower at the end of it. She didn’t sport any accessories and instead chose to mark her ears in gold glitter.
2. Deepika Padukone
Deepika rocked this gorgeous hot pink ensemble at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival. She stole the show with this iconic Fuchsia gown designed by Ashi Studio couture. The outfit was all frills and thrills and we cannot get over Deepika’s iconic smokey eyes and Emerald green earrings. Deepika was representing fashion brand L’oreal at the red carpet event.
3. Sonam Kapoor
Sonam set the 2017 Cannes red carpet on fire with her breathtaking Elie Saab Haute Couture gown. The gorgeous Aisha actress stunned the paparazzi with her ethereal golden gown. Her designer sister, Rhea Kapoor also shared images of Sonam’s outfit and we have to say, our jaws are on the floor! Sonam kept her accessories to a minimal and wore her beachy waves loose across her shoulders. Her striking makeup also brought in the wow factor and she kept her hands busy with a pastel colored clutch. Talk about being a fashionista!
4. Kangana Ranaut
Kangana wore a striking and sultry Zuhair Murad sheer gown as she graced the 2018 Cannes red carpet. The Queen starlet took a page out of Deepika and Aishwarya’s books as they had rocked the famed designer’s outfits at multiple galas and award functions before. The pastel grey gown featured sequin embellishments that dotted the gown all the way to its train. Kangana’s makeup artists chose to keep her look subtle yet dramatic and the actress opted for light-toned eye-shadow, matte lips and natural-looking eyebrows. She chose to not sport any accessories and let her backless floral fantasy gown speak for her. Can we just say that she looks totally drop-dead gorgeous?
5. Priyanka Chopra Jonas
Priyanka and her husband Nick Jonas are known for bringing in the heat to whichever red carpet event they attend. They often match with one another and since Priyanka is the fashionable one of the pair, Nick often steps aside to let her have her shine. For the 2019 Cannes red carpet, Priyankar donned a shimmering white, layered tulle gown that was designed by Georges Hobeika. She kept her makeup minimal but elevated the look with some dazzling diamond earrings and an equally radiant necklace. Nick on the other hand kept his look simple and complemented his wife with a nice white suit and bow tie. Nick also had to help his gorgeous wife up the steps with her gown.
6. Mallika Sherawat
Mallika graced the Cannes red carpet in a ravishing mermaid gown designed by Tony Ward. The gown featured a deep plunging neckline that highlighted Mallika’s striking curves. The sensational gown featured an elaborately designed cut-out detailed back, a long embellished train and beaded detailing. She wore her hair in loose beach waves and accessorized with long sparkly diamond earrings.
7. Hina Khan
TV Actress Hina Khan made her Cannes film festival debut in 2019 and ruled the red carpet with this spectacular dark silver metallic gown that was created by popular Australian fashion designer, Alin Le’ Kal. Hina showed off her leggy looks in the wonderful and vibrant gown and attended the red carpet to present a preview of her film, Lines. She had struck a chord with fashion critics after she debuted her first fashion look for the event early on.
Out of all of the various looks that these divas sported on the red carpet, we have to say that Aishwarya Rai’s glorious Golden gown holds a special place in our hearts.
