Sure, you’re probably super frustrated being trapped inside your house and feel like you have nothing to do during this time. You’re probably tired of seeing people on your Instagram being super duper productive, but hey, it’s a pandemic, not a competition. If you just want to lay under your covers all day and chillax, that’s perfectly fine. For all those of you who enjoy watching TV shows in your spare time, now’s the perfect time to binge watch all your favorite shows. Read on to check out our extensive list of intense Indian series to watch online. These shows are guaranteed to have you on the edge of your seat:
1. Made In Heaven
Made In Heaven is a show about the Big Fat Indian Wedding. Indians love throwing fancy and splashy weddings and there’s no lack of it in Made In Heaven. This series chronicles the lives of two Delhi wedding planners, Karan Mehra (Arjun Mathur) and Tara Khanna (Shobita Dhulipala). A word of warning, however, if you’re looking for happy endings, you won’t necessarily find them in this show. However, like with every marriage this series has its highs and lows. Both Tara and Karan share a beautiful relationship and it is heartwarming to watch their organic bond and unbreakable friendship.
2. Sacred Games
Saif Ali Khan makes his online debut in this disturbing thriller about the Mumbai underworld. The show is helmed by Anurag Kashyap of Gangs of Wasseypur fame and Vikramaditya Motwane. Khan plays the role of an unlucky cop, Sartaj Singh, who is racing to stop the elusive gangster, Ganesh Gaitonde — acted out by the versatile Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Gaitonde and his gang of cronies lay claims over Singh’s Mumbai and the city falls under siege by means of unknown forces. The first season of this gangster epic is top notch but its 2nd season isn’t as promising as the first.
3. The Family Man
Manoj Bajpayee is at his best as Srikant Tiwari, the leader of a secretive anti-terrorism corporation, who is on a race against time to save the country’s citizens. Don’t be fooled though, for he is no superspy by any means. Neither does the guy sport fancy devices, shiny cars or massive machine guns. However, Family Man works because of its motley of whimsical characters and the sensible and realistic treatment of its storyline.
4. Mentalhood
The perfect show for all you harrowed mothers out there just trying to deal with what life (your kids) throw at you. Our favorite Bollywood 90s heroine, makes her virtual debut with this hilarious series on five snooty SoBo mothers with equally snooty children. Karisma acts as an outsider from the city of Kanpur who recently shifts to the glitzy city of Mumbai. It’s a story of solidarity and deals with issues such as domestic abuse, infidelity and guilt. It’s a charming series that is meant to be a cheerful and light-hearted show while still dealing with real time issues.
5. Delhi Crime
This chair-gripping series is directed and written by Richie Mehta. It is the hard-hitting story of a tough as nails cop who is on the quest to hunt down the six men who are responsible for the gang rape of a young woman. Based on the actual tale of the gang-rape and murder of Nirbhaya, the 23 year old physiotherapy student who was viciously assaulted by five men and one minor on a moving bus in the city of New Delhi in the year 2012. Every scene grips you and plays as a grim reality on how dangerous it is to be a woman in a big Indian city. The intensity of the attack and the way the Delhi cops nabbed the culprits are what truly keeps us at our seat’s edges and make this show as gritty as it is overwhelming.
6. Inside Edge
This fascinating production is spearheaded by Vivek Oberoi, Sayani Gupta, Angad Bedi and Aamir Bashir. It exposes the pursuit towards power behind the exciting and spell binding lives involved in the international T20 cricket match. It deals with the underground and seedy underbelly of match-fixing, betting and power-grabbing. The show is aided by the spectacular performances of the lead actors and its depravity is totally binge-worthy. The stakes are high in this game of cat and mouse that doesn’t just stop at the cricket pitch.
7. The Final Call
Arjun Rampal plays the perpetually tormented pilot, Karan Sachdeva. The pilot is on call to steer all his passengers back to the path of safety. The seasoned actors, Vipin Sharma and Sakshi Tanwar (of Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii fame) are at their best in this series. The storyline deals with the tricky topics of fate, mental health, destiny and demise with magnificent dexterity. It might not make an easy landing in each episode (pun intended), but there’s enough to hold us hostage (pun intended once again).
With these shows on our list, it’s no surprise that your lockdown days will be full of entertainment and wonder. Tell us which shows you will most definitely give a watch after going through our list. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
