We’ve seen their jodi grace our screens from 1993 with Baazigar until very recently with their 2015 blockbuster Dilwale. Their chemistry has always been undeniable, and their combined acting powers have made Karan Johar a very successful man. He has directed them from their breakthrough roles in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai to Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, and the critically acclaimed movie My Name Is Khan. While their reel charisma sizzled our screens for a majority of the 90s, their off-screen personas lead their own separate lives. Despite the speculation from fans, the actors insisted nothing was going on between the two, and they were nothing more than good friends.
When they were first paired together, Shah Rukh was already married to his longtime partner Gauri Khan, and Kajol went on to marry her ‘first crush’, actor Ajay Devgn. During this time, Shah Rukh and his wife Gauri welcomed their son Aryan Khan, their daughter Suhana Khan and finally their youngest child AbRam Khan. Kajol and Ajay welcomed their first child in 2003, daughter Nysa Devgan and in 2010 welcomed their son, Yug Devgan. While fans were thrilled that their favorite actors were doing so well in life and were happy, they all inwardly wanted to see them sizzle on screen again.

This was the seventh time the on-screen couple were paired together, and Kajol was back to acting after a five-year-long hiatus from the industry. The film was a box office success, and fans were absolutely delighted to see the couple on the screen once more. Their film Dilwale saw a grand opening and was directed by Golmaal director Rohit Shetty.
On the Badshah’s 54th birthday, Kajol took to her Instagram to post a picture of the two from the sets of Dilwale and wished the actor a spectacular birthday. Referring to him as her sweet friend, Kajol and her constant on-screen partner, Shah Rukh Khan have shared screen space since what feels like time immemorial.
And, almost all of their films went on to become blockbusters. Their movie Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is so popular; it’s even worshipped by those in Western countries like America and the UK (basically wherever Indians have settled down).

Kajol is known for being extremely private about her personal life. She rarely makes an appearance and prefers not to talk about her family during interviews. Despite her jovial and bubbly nature, the actress has stated in the past that she likes to keep certain things private. However, the actress decided to throw aside her convictions and recently decided to do an Instagram “ask me anything”. The actress decided to reply to all the questions with a humorous take and proceeded to answer her fans’ essential questions.
Out of the billion inquiries that Kajol addressed yesterday, there was an essential answer that everybody needed to know “Would you wed SRK on the off chance that you didn’t meet Ajay?” To this, a super-clever Kajol answered, “Isn’t the man expected to propose?” Kajol further proceeded to uncover her inclination as an on-screen character between hubby, Ajay and SRK. The on-screen character shared, “Relies upon the circumstance.” She had likewise revealed some intriguing insights regarding her children and parenthood with Ajay.
When asked if she had plans to have any more children, the actress said she did not and had no dreams of doing so ‘in the pipeline’. She was also asked if she preferred working with Shah Rukh Khan or her husband, and she cleverly retorted “Depends on the situation.” The actress also proudly spoke about how she married the first man she had developed a crush on and that she does get a little envious when hubby, Ajay Devgn pays more attention to their children than her. Although, she claimed the feeling was mutual. Some of her newer fans even wanted to know if her marriage to Ajay Devgn was an arranged or love marriage.
What The Actors Have Said During Interviews
According to news reports from the mid-90s, the public wasn’t the only one who was suspicious of their chemistry. It was reported that Ajay Devgn too was affected by all the rumors flying around and had allegedly requested his love, Kajol to keep a little distance from Shah Rukh. Shah Rukh, however, attempted to quash these claims and said he found it hard to believe that Ajay would ever say something like that. The actor went on to further state that if his wife, Gauri had been an actress, he would not have reacted in the same way. The actor admitted that initially, he didn’t expect his friendship with Kajol to blossom as they got off to a rough start.
In another interview, Kajol claimed that when she and Shah Rukh first met on the sets of Baazigar, he was nursing a hangover and was in a bad mood. As she was talking a lot, the actor asked her to “Please shut up.” Looking back at these moments, the actors shared a sense of camaraderie that can only be achieved through years of friendship.
