Dandruff? Listen To Your Dermat. They Know Best!

Just like everybody else, I thought I could self-diagnose and treat my dandruff problem. After all, I knew my hair type, and the product I had picked out as my preferred dandruff treatment had been around in the market for centuries and promised to remove dandruff forever!

Boy, was I wrong. My dandruff kept returning just like the creepy stalker on my Facebook account. The moment I thought it was gone, it came back!

Seeing that I had no choice left, I booked an appointment with my dermatologist and went to tell him of my sorry state. I asked him how to get rid of dandruff, which seems to have become a recurring problem.

The conversation I had with him changed my hair’s destiny!

Which Anti-Dandruff Shampoo Did My Dermatologist Recommend To Me?

Most people seek an answer to the query of “How to remove dandruff?” with no fruitful results. It’s a pretty common problem, and even though several dandruff remedies exist, none of them are quite effective. So, when I went to my dermatologist, I had a lengthy discussion with him about all things dandruff to try and get to the root of the problem.

This is what I found out:

1. Dandruff Is Not Just Caused By What You Think

Dirt and dust clog our scalp pores, which then produces dandruff. That’s something I did not know! I thought only an oily or dry scalp was responsible for dandruff. But my dermatologist explained to me that dandruff is further aggravated by the polluted environment we live in. And being the city girl that I am, I guess that explained the recurring nature of my embarrassing dandruff problem.

2. Deeply Cleansing The Scalp Is Most Important

Most anti-dandruff shampoos focus on fixing dandruff on a superficial level only, which is why dandruff overstays during its trip as an unwelcome visitor. The aim of the anti-dandruff shampoo we use should be to purify and deep clean the scalp always.

3. Harsh Chemicals? No, Thank You

If I had a nickel for every anti-dandruff shampoo I’ve tried by now, I’d be rich! My scalp has served as a guinea pig for several shampoos I believed in, and none of them have really lived up to my expectations. I always had some other complaints like the shampoo caused itchy rashes, hair fall, etc. Turns out, I’m not alone! Haircare products are the most complained about among all beauty products on this planet (1). My dermat explained to me that this happens due to the presence of severely harsh chemicals in most anti-dandruff shampoos (2).

4. Anti-Dandruff Shampoo Isn’t Meant To Dry Out Hair!

And here I thought that dry hair was the commonly accepted side effect of shampoos meant to clear dandruff. But I was wrong. My dermat said I should actually go for shampoos that moisturize my hair instead of drying it out, otherwise dead skin cells would reappear as dandruff.

5. Dandruff Should Stay Gone Forever!

Dermat’s advice: Dandruff will come back, unless you continue using an effective anti-dandruff treatment! So, if you want to keep dandruff at bay, you best use a shampoo that your dermat recommends.
