Having a pet is one of the best feelings in the world, which every person needs to experience. They make your life brighter and forget your problems within just seconds. Taking your dog for a walk or spending some time snuggling with your cat is all you need to shed the after-effects of a tough day. All pets are cute and adorable, but dogs and cats definitely dominate the pet list. Regardless of the boundaries drawn by men on the globe, the entire world is divided into dog people and cat people. If you take a look around, most of the pet owners fall under two categories—dog owners and cat owners. Of course, there are those who have pet snakes and crocodiles, but let’s focus on the bows and meows here.

Believe it or not, your choice of a pet can say a lot about your personality. If you haven’t noticed yet, let us tell you that a person who loves dogs and a person who likes cats have very distinct personality traits. You don’t even need to own a dog or a cat to be a dog person or a cat person. If you think about it, you’ll know. Let’s take a look at some of the major differences between cat people and dog people—we’re sure you’re gonna agree.

Sense Of Duty

Dog people are planners and have a strong sense of duty. They take care of their loved ones and they would do anything to keep them happy. However, cat people go by “I just don’t care.” They are often immersed in their own worlds and they hardly come out of it to plan something or take up responsibilities.

Creativity And Intelligence

Cat people tend to be more creative and curious about life. They are intelligent and always prefer to think outside the box (1). These are the kind of people whom you often see in libraries and art studios. Sorry pupper friends, but there’s actual research evidence to prove cat people are more intelligent.

Extroverts

When it comes to an extroverted personality, dog people are at the frontline. They are always enthusiastic and fun to be around. You wouldn’t see a dog person sitting around doing nothing on a Sunday. However, cat people are exactly the opposite. Just like their choice of pet, they are lazy when it comes to physical activities and they’d love spending time watching a sci-fi movie or reading a thriller novel. But, of course, there are exceptions.

Dominance

Dog people tend to be more dominant than cat people according to a study (2). This is because they want a pet which has a temperament that adjusts with their own. Dogs are obedient pets while cats aren’t really obedient. This is probably why dominant people like to have dogs as their pets. Cat people are more understanding and they just like to “let things be.” They can enjoy the fact that their furry little friend is cute without getting annoyed with their cat’s constant tantrums.

Neurotic

Cat lovers often tend to get worried, anxious, and stressed easily. They are the over-thinkers and the ones, who stay awake in the middle of the night listening to old songs that make them cry. Dog people, on the other hand, are more trusting, fun-loving, and happy. They don’t have too many thoughts and choose to live in the moment. Dog people can easily forget their stress and they’d take the initiative to help themselves when in pain. Again, this is just a generalization.

Openness

Openness

Cat people are more open when it comes to their personality (3). They are frank and might tell you whatever is there on their mind without making it all fancy. On the other hand, dog lovers often tend to sugar-coat their words.

Independence

Cat people are happy all by themselves. They don’t need constant care and attention from others and they know how to enjoy their own company. They have few friends with whom they are very close. On the other hand, dog people enjoy social events and make friends wherever they go. They’re quite warm and often tend to initiate conversations. They like to be around people and don’t really like it when they’re alone for a long time.

No matter what kind of pet you have, nobody can be categorized firmly. Hence, this article needs to be taken with a pinch of salt. Also, pets are super amazing and they teach you a lot of valuable lessons like loyalty and sacrifice. They might be your spoiled little kitty or not so good boy, but they’re precious and they’ll always be there for you even if nobody else is. Are you a pet owner? What is do you love the most about them? Share your thoughts with us in the comments section below.
