My Love Story Began On Social Media

Connection sparked through digital channels, turning strangers into lifelong partners.

Do you believe in the fact that love can be found anywhere, anytime? I had just heard about it and I used to think that it made no sense until I met Vicky, well, to be more specific, met “virtually”. Finding love online definitely isn’t an alien concept for us; there are a zillion dating websites these days, some of which are even religion-specific and caste-specific (rolls eyes).

I have never really been a person who enjoyed socializing in the offline world. Therefore, I tried my hand at being social, virtually. And, of all the social websites that I researched on, I found Instagram to be of my type. More of a picture-driven site which impressed me because I was a food photographer, and I soon found out that there is an entire web of food enthusiasts out there on Instagram. So, I quickly created my account with the username @the_emotionalfoodie.

How I Bumped Into “The Dessert King”

After having created the emotional foodie account, I posted a lot of food pictures on Instagram on a daily basis. I somehow had decoded the hashtag game. Then, it was all about using the right hashtags with the help of which my work could reach the right people. Honestly, I was never a dessert lover. But, there was this one amazing picture of Almond Chocolate Chia pudding, a 100% vegan dessert that I fell in love with (which I had clicked). I decided to post it on my feed on Instagram, and used this particular hashtag “#dessertsclub”. My post on this picture was trending on Instagram and for the first time ever 585 people had liked my picture (otherwise the number of likes doesn’t even cross 200). Then, there was this comment on my post that read, “That’s a dessert click” with a heart emoji. I just replied, “Thank you”. The profile read Vicky and in the bio was Dessert King. When I read that I felt like this guy must be some self-obsessed brat.

After a few days, he DM’d me (direct message). We figured we belonged to the same city, Hyderabad. And it was through the “#dessertsclub” that he came across my post. We had a heart-warming chat and I figured I’d misjudged him big time. This guy, Vicky, knew everything about desserts. He could even list out the components by just looking at the picture of the dessert. Let’s just say I got a little dessert-struck for a while (haha).

When We Took The Love Turn

We ended up chatting a lot on Instagram (like really, a lot) and soon, we exchanged numbers. Somehow, a weird connection surfaced between us, and no, it wasn’t any “crush kinda” feeling. We just enjoyed talking to each other. He seemed like a really nice guy and we often left funny, annoying comments on each other’s posts after liking them on Instagram. Our messaging drills reached a level wherein we would guess each other’s replies instantly. That’s when we decided to talk over the phone. I still remember his first laugh over the call, it sounded as childish and innocent as a kid’s laugh. We spoke for a whopping 45 minutes. I couldn’t remember the last time I spoke to someone like that. And he confessed that he felt the same too.

Seven months went by on Instagram, calls and all the pinging on messenger. We’d seen each other’s picture on our respective profiles, he found me to be cute as a panda and I found him to be this very serious-looking guy and addressed him as “Sir” (to annoy him obviously). And on 19th April 2018, we finally decided to meet (or let me put it this way— I finally agreed to meet). I always told him on calls that I’m not a dessert lover like him, all desserts are the same. So he took it up as a challenge to make me fall in love with them one day. He took me to an Italian café, he ordered Tiramisu (his favorite) for us. I wondered which guy orders without asking the lady what she wants. The tiramisu was served; I wasn’t wowed by looking at it. But then, when I had the first bite of it, I was lost. I continued to eat the dessert when he finally stopped me to ask, “Did you like it?” and I replied, “Can’t you see I’m eating without uttering a word, which means I loved it.” He thought it was the cutest compliment ever to his favorite dessert. We spoke about our constants in life that day. And the conversations went on for really long.

We kept meeting a lot from then on. We enjoyed our friendship. We slowly saw the friendship outgrow itself. I remember meeting him after a month’s gap and I naturally went and gave him a tight hug. And he whispered, “I missed you”. We both knew it that very moment that we were in love. He took his own sweet time to confess it and so did I. We never planned the love neither did it happen to us. I guess we nurtured our feelings and its destination was this.

It’s been more than a year now. He made me fall in love with the desserts and then him. We plan on getting married soon (I’ll be his dessert queen soon). This was my love story. Courtesy: Social Media.
