Whether you’ve heard it from your granny or you’ve read it off the internet, you know that there are a wide variety of benefits to oiling your hair. Many prescribe oiling as a blanket solution to all of your hair’s worst problems. It can give life to your damaged tresses and can even help relieve stress. And while we have to admit that hair care can be a risky affair, if there is one thing that works, it’s deep conditioning. Sure, you might be the type of person who hates the feeling of oily tresses, but we guarantee that oiling your hair will cure most of your hair troubles. You can also look for lighter oils like almond oil if you don’t enjoy the smell of coconut oil or other popular oils. Here are nine reasons why you should be oiling your hair at least twice a week, if not more often:

Certain oils like olive oil and castor oil are rich in fatty acids and Vitamin E and can create a physical barrier around your hair cells. This can help prevent loss of moisture and can leave your strands looking extremely dry and dull. Oils help nourish your hair from within and hydrate your hair. This will help keep your frizzy hair days away for longer durations of time!

3. It Can Help Hydrate Dry Hair

Your hair can lose hydration because of exposure to external elements such as the sun and pollution. Dry hair can also cause terrible hair fall. One of the best ways to avoid this is by applying oil to your hair and leaving it overnight. Wash your hair with a deep cleaning shampoo and coat it in hair serum. Do this at least three nights a week.

The harsh truth of it all is that lice can be attracted to dry and flaky scalps. Lice are especially attracted to bacteria caused by the dead skin that is present on your scalp. Different types of oils help combat dryness and exfoliate dry skin. Olive oil especially has antibacterial properties, and this helps prevent hair lice.

6. It Can Help Strengthen Your Roots

This, in turn, will strengthen your hair roots. Oiling your scalp can help clear your hair follicles from harmful bacteria and sebum and make your hair stronger.

Most of the hair oils that are present out there have antibacterial properties. When applied to the scalp, they can help prevent any dangerous bacterial infections that are caused by exposure to external elements. One of the biggest causes of bacterial infections is residual bacteria produced by dead hair and skin. Hair oils can help remove all of this build-up from your scalp.

Just like with lice, dandruff is formed on sweaty and dry scalps. This is tough to combat since we are exposed to dust and pollution on a daily basis.
