Let’s face it. Getting married is quite an uphill task as it is and preparing for your day is an even bigger task. However, this is the day that you’ve been dreaming about since you were a little girl, and we know that you want it to be perfect. Unfortunately, no matter how big a “bridezilla” you are, there are a few things that can go way out of your control. However, there are some factors that you can definitely predict ahead of time and prepare for them. Here are nine common hair mistakes that brides often make on their big day and how you can avoid making them yourself when the time comes:

1. Washing Your Hair On D-Day

Unless your hair is going to be slicked back in a thick bun, there is no reason for you to wash your hair on the day of your wedding. If you’re someone with frizzy, wavy or curly hair, washing your hair on the day of your wedding will be a wonderful way to make your hairstylist mad. Instead, it’s a smarter idea to wash your hair at least a day before and let the natural oils soak into your strands.

2. Getting Your Hair Deep Conditioned Before The Wedding

Who doesn’t love soft, defined and super bouncy hair? However, there’s also a risk of your hair looking flat, greasy and super oily underneath the harsh lights on a wedding stage. Instead of deep conditioning your hair in the days leading up to your wedding, you should just make use of a gentle leave in serum or conditioner to get that extra shine you need without the yucky grease.

3. Trying Your Hair Extensions For The First Time

It’s totally normal to use hair extensions during your wedding and don’t let anybody shame you for doing so. However, what is not okay, is not testing the extensions before time and making sure it was the right length and you won’t be able to blend the hair extensions into your hair as easily as well. Getting a trial done with your hairstylist ahead of time is a smarter option.

4. Ignoring Your Hair Stylist Till The Last Moment

This is a really silly move and unless you have extremely short and manageable hair we would advise you to not get on the bad side of your hair stylist. While your outfit might be absolutely stunning and the center of attention, your hair is important too and hence you should be on the same page about what you want with your hairstylist.

5. Trying A Funky New Style

It’s fine to try and experiment every now and then but deciding to give yourself bangs right before your wedding day will definitely be a silly mistake that will cost you some great pictures if your hair stylist cannot fix it. It’s not a good idea to experiment with colors before the wedding either. This is especially if you have purchased your hair extensions prior to the wedding. We’d suggest you leave the experimenting of hair until after the honeymoon ends!

6. Ignoring That Weather Is Unpredictable

The unfortunate reality of our country is that we have extremely unpredictable weather and many wedding parties fail to take that into account. Dress your best but prepare for the worst. In the end you need to understand that your comfort and happiness is more important than anything else and you need to be able to make a run for it in the unlikely chance that it rains.

7. Picking An Odd Hair Accessory

If there is one thing you shouldn’t be doing, it’s arguing with your hair stylist over which accessory will suit you. Unless they are suggesting something that is absolutely ridiculous, we would advise you to stick with what they think is best and plan accordingly. At the end, trust your own instincts but be open to criticism.

8. Letting Your Fresh Flowers Wilt Away

There’s nothing more upsetting than wilted away flowers. Considering that many wedding rituals require the use of flowers, make sure that you store them in the refrigerator right before you wear them and keep refreshing them with little sprits of water throughout the day.

9. Over-Spraying Your Hair

Of course, we understand that wedding hairstyles are often super elaborate and require a lot of upkeep and messing around with hair spray to keep it in place. We must however always remember that less is more and it is important to not go overboard with any hairstyling products. Even if your hair styling is insisting on over-spraying your hair, explain to them that you want your hair to have less product.

You must always remember that in the end, it is your big day and that matters more than anything else. As long as both you and your partner love how your hair looks and are excited to tie the knot, nothing else should matter. Do let us know if any of these tips were of use to you and if you’re looking forward to trying them out!
