“It’s always further than it looks. It’s always taller than it looks. And it’s always harder than it looks.” If you are someone who enjoys trekking then you probably relate to this quote massively. India is home to the Himalayas but there are plenty of easier treks that you can climb too! You don’t need to be an extreme pro at trekking in order to enjoy the treasures of the mountains of India. All you really need is determination, patience and a certain level of fitness. Since things are slowly opening up and more and more people are receiving their vaccine, many travel and trekking agencies too are opening their doors to customers. If you’re wondering what to do during your spare time this summer, we’ve got nine Indian mountains that you must make it a point to scale:

1. Chandrashila

If you are someone who is a devoted follower of Shiva, then what is a better way to honor him than by trekking to the highest Shiva temple in India? The beautiful mountain contains a tranquil lake called Deoria Tal. You can then visit the Tungnath Temple that is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The Chandrashila trek is the perfect way for you to start your journey as a climber. This is not too complicated a trek and you won’t require prior experience to scale it. The mountain is about 12,000 feet at its peak.

2. Shrikhand Mahadev Peak

The Shrikhand Mahadev Peak is one of the toughest pilgrimages to undertake in India. Amarnath and Kedarnath peaks provide its climbers with the ability to ride horses. Unfortunately Shrikhand Mahadev Peak does not provide you with that option. This summit will provide you with a wonderful panoramic view of Kinnar Kailash and its neighbouring peaks. Since this is a bit of a tricky trek, it’s good to have some prior trekking experience. The highest altitude of the peak is 16,400 feet.

3. Mount Kanamo

When it comes to scaling Mount Kanamo, the trick is to acclimatize to the weather. You need to ensure that you stay in the village of Kibber before you set out on your trek so you can get used to the altitude. The climb might not be extremely steep but there is zero vegetation in the area and it is of a high altitude. For this climb, it’s important to have prior experience. The highest altitude of this climb is 19,500 feet.

4. Stok Kangri
