If you’re someone who is absolutely obsessed with watching Korean dramas then we totally relate to you. The K-wave has swept across the globe and brought with it some interesting storylines and plot twists. There are tonnes of popular shows like Crash Landing On You, Itaewon Class, Mr. Sunshine and many more that will keep you hooked. So whether you are a serial binge-watcher or a novice, here are nine things you will relate to if you are obsessed with K-dramas:
1. Spending Your Weekends Exploring Korean Restaurants
Even if your city doesn’t value Korean culture as much as you, you will manage to sniff out a Korean restaurant somewhere. Even if your city doesn’t have a Korean restaurant, you will manage to find recipes online and cook the food yourself. Your love for Korean food knows no bounds, and you’ve managed to memorize the recipes of all the most popular dishes. Bulgogi, Jjamppong, Bibimbap, and Tteokbokki are just a few of your favorite ones.
2. Planning A Trip To South Korea
Rather than planning a visit to all the generic places, you’ve made plans to go on a trip to South Korea. You absolutely cannot wait to visit the place and explore the culture. You’ve probably also got a group of friends who are also fans of Korean culture to accompany you to the place. You cannot wait to set foot on the sunny shores of Nami and Jeju island. Busan and Seoul are also two cities that are on your must-see list and you cannot wait to explore the incredible street food and try your hand at street photography.
3. Noting Down A List Of Seoul’s Top Restaurants
You absolutely cannot visit your favorite city and not explore all of its best restaurants. You probably follow a lot of Korean food bloggers and influencer accounts so you definitely know the top restaurants to visit when you go to Seoul. If you’re a meat eater then we bet that your fingers are aching to dig into some exotic Korean bbq (our mouths are watering just thinking of this).
4. Just Another… Episode
You cannot stop at just one. You start with one episode of a K-drama and end up watching four seasons of it in one go. As tough as it is to put your laptop away, you have to take a break and get back to reality. After all, too much of a good thing is not good for you either. You might also be the type of person who will try to binge watch the end of a season just because you don’t want to leave it off with just two episodes remaining.
5. Thank Goodness For Subtitles
As much as you’re probably trying to learn the language, you probably still need subtitles like most non-native speakers of Korean. And hey, there’s no shame in relying on them. Since K-dramas have become a part of your daily life, you’ve learned to be appreciative of subtitles and to develop a cordial relationship with them blocking the bottom of your screen or being mismatched sometimes.
6. You Insta Stalk Korean Chefs
Are you truly a K-drama fan if you don’t find a yummy-looking dish on a show and then try to look it up later? You probably spend most of your free time stalking popular Korean chefs on Instagram and drooling over their mouth watering dishes. Their videos are so tempting, you probably end up learning to cook the dishes yourself.
7. You Dream Of Finding A Korean Prince Charming
You have a huge thing for Korean men. We get it. The handsome and sophisticated Korean men that we see in the industry make us wish we lived in Korea ourselves. You’ve probably developed a huge crush on actors like Hyun Bin, Lee Min-Ho and so many other handsome hunks. It doesn’t end there however, you feel invested in these actors’ lives and end up stalking them on the internet too.
8. You’ve Truly Adopted Korean Culture As Your Own
You’re not ashamed to admit that you have adopted Korean culture as well as you have been bred into your own. It’s always interesting to explore foreign cultures and cultures that are not your own. From their food to the way they express love and appreciation, Korean culture truly speaks to you on another level altogether.
9. You Find Yourself Shipping Couples In Real Life Too
What do you mean your favorite Korean actors aren’t dating each other in real life? Since you are such a major fan of K-dramas, you end up shipping couples in real life as well as on the small screens. Although the chemistry between the characters on the show are palpable, a part of you wishes that they were dating in real life as well.
