6 People Who Ended Relationships For Very Petty Reasons

Written by Saumya Gaur •

Human beings are fickle creatures. On one hand, they seek companionship and love, on the other, their brains are resistant to the idea of stability and constantly roam about in search of novelty. As a result of this, we often jump from one relationship to another without giving it the time and the chance to grow.

We promise our partners the sun and moon when we first want to reel them in, but as soon as the monotony sets in, there are some of us who seek to get out. So, why does this happen? Well, we asked around and looked for the reasons over which people ended their relationships. And we were surprised to find people calling it quits over the pettiest of reasons.

Well to each his own, but wouldn’t you want to know what those reasons were? Read on to find out more.

P.S — for privacy reasons, we have refrained from using the real names of the people involved.

1. The Yawn Breaker

We found this gentleman unburdening his heart on Reddit. He wrote that his girlfriend was in the habit of teasing him by putting a finger in his mouth every time he yawned. Tired of not being able to relax and always fearing this kind of oral harassment, the gentleman dumped his girlfriend.

Yeah, we agree, this doesn’t seem like fun, but umm, wouldn’t it have been better if he had just talked to her about it? Breaking up is a bit extreme, don’t you think so?

2. Because She Sang Along The Radio

Well, who doesn’t love to sing along to their favorite songs on the radio in the car? Apparently, this guy. We found this guy’s breakup testimony on Reddit, where he wrote that his girlfriend used to sing along to every song that would play on the radio when they would be in their car together, but with a lag of a few seconds.

As in, she knew the tune but had to wait to hear the lyrics before singing along. Well, it got to a point where he couldn’t put up with it anymore and broke up with her.

We wonder if this guy was Arijit Singh.

3. Because She “Travelled” Less

Ladies beware, putting up aspirational “travel more” or “Wanderlust” posts on Instagram can cost you your relationship. Just as it did in the case of this young woman.

Mike told us that his girlfriend loved to travel but had never gone out of her home state. But all the experiences that she posted on the social media were described as “travels” as in “traveled to the grocery store” or “my travels to the bird park.” He ended things with her saying he needed space, and she wished him luck on his “travels”. Needless to say, it drove him a little crazy.

4. Because She Bought Him A Birthday Gift

Before relating this person’s experience, I want to ask you all a question. What’s the maximum amount of time you’ve dragged a relationship because it wasn’t the right time to break up?

In this person’s case, 34 days was far too long. So, Jay had been wanting to convey to his girlfriend that he was feeling a little stifled in the relationship and wanted out. However, when his birthday was 4 days away, he got to know that his girlfriend had bought him a gift. He thought that after accepting the gift he wouldn’t be able to break up with her for at least 30 days, and 34 days was too long a wait for our man, so he broke up with her.

5. Because He Was A Gullible Shopper

How many times have you shopped for something because you just couldn’t say no to the nice lady at the store? Well, I have done this too many times to be counted and I am glad my then-dating partner (and now significant other) decided to stand by us while we battled this horrible habit, unlike this woman. Megha tells us that she broke up with her college boyfriend because she went shopping with him and found that he just couldn’t say no to the saleswoman.

Talk about high standards!

6. Because He Wasn’t A “True Reader”

This was the case with a dear friend of mine. We all were a close-knit group of friends who had a serious passion for books. One of them met her boyfriend through a mutual friend from this circle. The guy was super good-looking and had a personality to match. Knowing my friend’s taste, we thought this was a match made in heaven. Turns out we were wrong.

She broke up with him within 10 days of dating because he read only popular fiction which was apparently a big no-no in the eyes of my highbrow literature-loving friend.

So, what do you think? Well, one thing is for sure, websites like Tinder and AshleyMadison exist for a reason. Looking at these reasons it has become quite clear to me that we would really require their assistance in order to further the human race in the future!
