When the PM of our country announced a lockdown on the 25th of March, a lot of us didn’t have time to or were too paranoid to visit the parlor one last time. So needless to say, our hair, nails, and face are probably pretty unkempt. However, as things ease and the lockdown rules are relaxed, many of us are itching to grab a little TLC from our favorite salon. Yet you might feel a little paranoid about being in a public place so soon. Fret not, we’ve got a few tips you can use to ensure you stay as protected from the Coronavirus as possible. Here’s how you can ensure you stay safe during your visit to the beauty salon:

1. Book An Appointment Beforehand

There’s going to be a lot of women rushing to the parlors and due to the social distancing measures businesses are practicing, it won’t be easy to get a walk-in appointment. Booking beforehand will ensure you have little contact with other salon visitors and you can get in and get out as quickly as possible. The good thing about booking an appointment over call is that you get to ask the receptionist about the safety standards and practices they are observing during this time and then make your decision.

2. Wear A Face Mask And Protective Goggles

Sure, you might think we’re being paranoid by advising you this, but if you want to stay cautious, this is your safest option. This is essential to follow as you can still get infected if droplets fall into your eye. If you are going to get your upper lip or eyebrow threaded, ask the beautician not to put the thread in their mouth and ask them if they could sanitize their hands before and after. While these might sound like rude questions to ask, it is important that you ensure your safety above all else.

3. Ensure The Staff Are Wearing Masks

If you notice that there are staff members who aren’t wearing masks, you should point it out and ask them to wear one. As per guidelines by the WHO, it is important to ensure that your hands are washed as soon as you enter the salon and ask the staff working with you to do the same.

4. Sanitise Equipment And Carry Your Own Towel

It is important to ask staff members at the salon to make sure their scissors, combs, etc are all sanitized before you make use of them. This will ensure that your risk of transmission is low. You should also ensure that you carry your own towel rather than rely on the salon. This is a good practice in general and should be followed even after the virus is eradicated and things return to normal.

5. Use Disposable Products

When you’re scheduling an appointment with the salon, ask them if they use disposable products. It’s important to make sure that the products are sanitized and don’t make contact with any other of the salon’s visitors while you’re there. This includes items like robes, slippers, waxing spatulas, gowns, and others.

6. Fresh Packets For Facial, Pedicure, And Manicure

It’s always in good practice to opt for and use fresh packets even if it means shelling out a few extra rupees for a more premium product. Avoid using creams, common soap, or oil of any kind. This will thus ensure that there is minimal risk of transmission. If it can be avoided, try skipping your facial and doing one at home as this would let you skip making close contact with the beautician. Keeping both of you safe.

7. Take A Bath As Soon As You Get Home

If you’ve had a haircut you’re probably covered with loose strands of hair and should take a bath anyway. However, due to the circumstances surrounding the ongoing pandemic, you must take a shower as soon as you return home from outside, without fail. This ensures that any germs that may have gotten onto your clothing are washed off when you wash your clothes and take a shower. Ensure you take a hair wash and sanitize your footwear before you enter your home. Especially if you have little children or older parents at home.

These are just a few precautions you should take when you step outdoors to visit the beauty parlor. It is absolutely essential that you follow all the rules mandated by the governing body of your area and if you live in an area with a higher case count, it is best to avoid visiting the parlor altogether. You must place the safety and security of yourself and your family above all else. However, don’t let this dissuade you from going to the beauty parlor if you really need to go.
