There are two kinds of men in this world – the first, who will mansplain periods to you (puh-lease), and the second? They’re your husbands – creatures who are completely clueless about this monthly phenomenon you go through and are super curious to know more!

But having seen the crazy hormonal fluctuations you experience at this time of the month, they never dare ask you all the questions that swirl in their heads. Can’t really blame them. You can be a lioness one moment and a scaredy-cat the next. There’s no knowing!

That said, we’re here to put to rest all the questions husbands have. So, hubbies all around the world, listen up! You’re about to know something you’ve always wanted to!

1. How Long Do Periods Last?

Basically, the one and only reason for asking this question is to know when you can get intimate again. You’ve got to give it to husbands for their politeness! Well, here’s the thing. Periods typically last anywhere between 3 to 7 days since the flow of it can vary. So, you can expect lovemaking to be off the table for a week every month!

2. How Bloody Is It Really?

Pretty much, to be honest, but not as much as one would think. Generally, a woman loses about 30 to 80 ml of blood throughout the duration of her period. But then again, every woman has a different cycle and, hence, the amount of bleeding can vary. Heavy days are the worst!

3. How Do You Know You Are Going To Get It?

Before periods set in, a woman’s body starts sending signals that only she can read, and which men have to suffer. Collectively, these are known as PMS and can vary from erratic mood swings to cramps. Also, since it’s a cyclical process, women keep track of their dates and generally know when it’s going to happen.

4. What’s The First Day Like?

Two words – The. Worst. The first day is usually the worst day for most. The flow is at an all-time high. The cramps are crazy. And the mood swings are somewhere in the stay-away-from-me territory! If you don’t want your wife to go into lioness-mode, do NOT try to irritate her. I repeat, DO NOT TRY TO IRRITATE HER!

You’ll regret it if you do.

5. How Bad Does The Pain Get?

There’s only one comparison that can help men understand the pain – it’s like getting kicked in the crotch. Constantly. That said, the pain factor is something that varies from woman to woman and some may not even experience any cramps. But for others, the cramps can be enough to evoke their inner murderer!

6. Isn’t Wearing A Pad Extremely Uncomfortable?

Well, it’s not. When you’ve been doing something since your tween years, you kind of get used to it. Besides, pads are designed to be soft, thin, and comfortable. Although those of poor quality can cause irritation, and so can a pad that hasn’t been changed for several hours. Sometimes, there’s staining despite a pad and that is just super embarrassing!

7. Can You Get Intimate During Periods?

There’s no rule that says between-the-sheets fun is not allowed during periods, but most women don’t do it out of choice. It can get really messy! But then again, it’s best to follow your woman’s lead. Let her decide if she’s going to fight the turn on she experiences this time or give in!

8. How Can We Help Ease Things For You?

Husbands don’t have to do much really. Just try not annoying your better half or picking up a fight, as it can blow out of proportion. Just do your best not to add to her monthly misery. Get her a big bar of chocolate, act as her prop up pillow, and play her favorite TV show or movie. She’ll more than appreciate it!

9. Why Do You Get A Free Pass To Be Difficult?

This is one question that hubbies are most scared of asking but still really want to know: Why do women get the leeway to be totally difficult once every month but men don’t? It’s really unfair! They have to keep their sh*t together every day! Right?

Wrong.

Here’s the thing – no uterus, no leeway.

10. What Do You Like? Tampons Or Pads?

This is different for every woman. Some prefer the ease of use that pads provide, while others like the convenience of invisible period protection that tampons offer. It’s completely a matter of personal choice, and there’s no way to judge which of the two is better.

Well, guess that answers everything! Or at least the most important questions that husbands have about periods. If you have any more, feel free to comment below!
