Saath Nibhaana Saathiya is a Hindi serial that has given us many classic meme moments. From the time Gopi bahu washed a laptop and kept it out for drying to any time Kokilaben and her eye makeup appeared on the TV screen, the show has provided hilarious fodder for internet meme makers. Recently, however, an old clip from an episode started doing the rounds of the internet after an Indian singer on Instagram released a rap version of Kokilaben’s dialogue. So here’s why and how this meme stole the crown from everyone’s favorite Binod meme (to know why Binod went viral, click here):

This clip is gaining notoriety because of how pointless and almost unreal the argument is. In the rap, we see Kokilaben grilling Gopi Bahu, who she left in charge of the kitchen while she was bathing. Kokilaben had left chana (chickpeas) on the stove to cook, and when she returned to the kitchen, she found the pressure cooker to be completely empty. Eventually, we see Gopi Bahu crack under pressure and reveal that it was Rashi Behen who was in the kitchen last. The guy who edited and released the video, Yashraj Mukhate, is seen rapping along to the beat and making exaggerated expressions.

The Instagram rapper’s video was well-received, and former TV serial actress and current politician, Smriti Irani too appreciated the hilarious viral video. The video, which was shared on the 20th of August, has over four million views and more than a million likes, making this video, Yashraj’s biggest record-breaker.

How One Meme Lead To Another

After this scene went viral, people started sharing the clip of Rashi emptying the pressure cooker and wondering what the point behind it was. Considering that the chana was half cooked and could have been eaten by someone in need, internet users were flabbergasted as to why the show decided it would be a good idea to base an entire dialogue around the topic. Many wondered why nobody had noticed the food in the dustbin when they had opened the bin to throw away other items. Many people wondered how Rashi Behen managed to open the cooker without popping the whistle (which would have alarmed everyone but is the only way to open a pressure cooker when in a hurry.

Netizens cracked jokes about how the scene actually belonged in another popular serial, CID. If you’re a regular social media user, you have probably come across this meme on your timeline and wondered what the heck it is about. People have been obsessing over how many Indian TV serials seem to follow baseless logic over actually showcasing good content and have been sharing other viral moments online.

Gopi Bahu’s Mishaps

Gopi Bahu is shown as the naive dim-witted one who often falls victim to the nefarious acts committed by Rashi Behen. In a clip from the show that had gone viral earlier, we see Gopi Bahu washing her husband’s laptop with soap and water and hanging it out to dry on the clothesline. Just as she does this, her husband returns and is shocked to see that his laptop has been destroyed. All the while, the camera pans across the room to see the actors’ hilarious and overly dramatic expressions. This clip gained viral infamy with many Twitter users making and sharing funny memes on the show.

One Twitter user joked about how the evil character of Rashi had been dead for a while and arose to see her name trending all over Twitter. Another user shared a hilarious meme of Kokilaben with a gun in her hand yelling out and asking, “Rasode Mein Kaun Tha?” (Who was in the kitchen?). Others joked about how “Rashi” was the new Binod and that the two of them together were a match made in heaven.

Sponges For Defibrillators?

A Bengali TV serial recently went viral after it showed a scene in which a patient was being treated with- not defibrillators- but dish cleaning sponges (ROTFL). People were shocked at how visible the sponges were and many shareD memes comparing the TV serial for dish soap and sponge ads. The eagle-eyed fans quickly spotted the odd prop and called out the show for the hilarious mishap. The scene appears in a trailer for a Bengali TV show called Krishnakoli. We wonder if doing dishes while quarantining in their homes had led scriptwriters to include this bizarre prop instead of actually spending money on an artificial defibrillator prop. We wonder how they thought they could get away with such a weird moment. There are so many questions that this trailer left unanswered. You can watch it over here.

While most of us are bored in our houses during the lockdown, the internet has proved to be a treasure trove of random memes and information for us. For many, these memes have proved to be uplifting in dark times, and hence people are drawn to them despite how ridiculous they may seem. At the end of the day, all the memes are in good humor and they don’t mean to target the actors or actresses personally. What do you think about Rashi Behen and her chana memes?
