The name Sara Ali Khan is well-known in Bollywood because of her lineage. Being the daughter of popular actor Saif Ali Khan and actress Amrita Singh, fans were excited to hear that she was making her debut in the movie Kedarnath in 2018. The movie did not do as well as expected but Sara Ali Khan’s performance was critically acclaimed. She then bagged a role in Rohit Shetty’s film, Simmba where she shared the screen with Ranveer Singh. Her fame skyrocketed after this commercial entertainer became a box office hit. The song Aankh Maare took over the entertainment space and Sara Ali Khan was right in the center of it. Recently, the trailer of her upcoming Imtiaz Ali film Love Aaj Kal was released but what no one anticipated was the storm of memes it was going to create. Twitter users shared tweets about the movie and her “overacting” and Sara Ali Khan was hurt by these trolls. Read on to know more.
Sara Ali Khan has two movies that are set to release this year – Coolie No. 1 and Love Aaj Kal. Love Aaj Kal is a romantic drama film will release on Valentine’s Day. It captures the nuances of new age romance and stars Sara Ali Khan and Kartik Aaryan. After the release of Love Aaj Kal‘s trailer, several fans criticized her for her acting skills and this hurt her. In an interview with popular movie critic Anupama Chopra, Sara said that it does not bother her when she gets trolled her fashion choices and weight but she did get affected when they trolled her for her acting.
In Conversation With Anupama Chopra
Anupama Chopra, the author of Film Companion, interviewed Sara on her upcoming release. In the conversation, Sara told Anupama that she does not mind being trolled for being fat, wearing a cap or painting her nails different colors but when it comes to her profession it affects her. She said that her profession is serious and being harshly criticized for it makes it hard for her to ignore it. Sara said that the trolling hit her this time because she acts for the audience. She expressed her disappointment saying, “For the first time, it actually kind of hurts.” When asked more about the particular scene that created a riot of memes, she said that she was not allowed to look at the monitor and so had no idea how she looked. She enacted what Zoe (her character in Love Aaj Kal) would actually be feeling at that point and did what came organically to her.
Sara told Anupama that she is not someone who derives her confidence from how she looks so she pays no heed if people call her fat or troll her for her hat, both of which happened before. But this time it was about her role on screen and she felt hurt. She said that audiences expect an actress to look pretty when she is crying, eating, or basically doing anything but the reality is that this was not a pretty shot. It was not her job to look pretty but to convey what her character was feeling at a certain given point. That being said, she was disappointed that some of her audience did not like an aspect of her acting because what she does, she does for them too. She handled the conversation with grace and humility and said, “I think there is only learning to go from here. Here’s hoping there’s parts of the film that they do like and that I can make them happy and entertain them more and more in the future”.
Trolling Unlimited
Although Sara’s face made most of the meme material in the virtual space, it should be mentioned that Kartik Aaryan too faced the brunt of some trolling. Twitter users did not fail to create hilarious (possibly mean) memes with the Love Aaj Kal actor’s face that flooded the internet. The young duo has been linked together by media ever since Sara humorously said that she has a crush on Kartik Aaryan on Koffee With Karan and it is a no-brainer that fans want to watch this movie to witness their chemistry on screen.
Sara Ali Khan also spoke about how she believes that it is important to have a support system to keep her grounded because sometimes the paparazzi, fame, and success can be too loud and can stray her away from her individuality. Sara’s honest nature has won our hearts from the very beginning. And even this time, we love the fact that she boldly agreed that she got hit by the trolls. We’re sure Sara is going to give it back to the meme-makers with her performance in the much awaited movie. We wish her the best and hope she soars to heights of success in her career.
