Bollywood as an industry is ever changing. We see many new faces enter it, and we see even more faces leave. This is especially the case with actresses and models. Some actresses gain entry into the industry through their parents’ names while others try to make it through their own struggle and merit. Sadly, not everyone can be as successful as Priyanka Chopra or Aishwarya Rai. Some actresses will achieve success in their first few films and then quit acting altogether, or they will transition into reality stars, homemakers or even socialites. Here are a few popular actresses from the 2000s who decided they no longer wanted to work in Bollywood:

1. Ayesha Takia

Ayesha was one out of the three actresses who made their acting debut in the film, Dil Maange More. In the film, she was paired with Bollywood superstar Shahid Kapoor. Ayesha ended up being the most popular of the actresses in the films and was much loved by fans. She actually starred in plenty of films like Wanted, Taarzan: The Wonder Car, Sunday and many more. Eventually, she married entrepreneur Farhan Azmi and decided not to act in Bollywood films anymore. She currently works as an entrepreneur and raises her kids with her husband.

2. Sneha Ullal

Sneha made many waves when she made her debut in the film, Lucky. The reason was the fact that she shared a close resemblance to Aishwarya Rai and the person who launched her was none other than Aishwarya’s ex, Salman Khan. Many wanted to see the dynamic between Salman and Sneha but sadly, she disappeared from Bollywood after the film and there hasn’t been a lot of news about her lately.

3. Ameesha Patel

Ameesha who was once a major star recently made her reality TV debut on Big Boss 13. Like her brother, Ameesha too decided that she wanted a slice of the reality TV pie and thus, enrolled in the Bigg Boss house. Her first film, Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai was a major hit and it catapulted her and her co-star, Hrithik Roshan to superstardom overnight. Although she acted in many other films after this, none achieved the same level of success as her first film and she eventually walked away from the world of acting. We’re glad to see her back on the small screens though.

4. Tanushree Dutta

Tanushree Dutta joined Bollywood with a bang and starred in the film Aashiq Banaya Aapne opposite Emraan Hashmi and Sonu Sood. Her insanely gorgeous looks caught the eye of many and everyone expected her to be the next best Bong after Bipasha Basu. However, luck didn’t deal Tanushree a steady hand and she ended up acting in quite a few flop films. She was even credited for igniting India’s own #MeToo movement that helped scours of women speak out and reveal their stories. She later moved abroad and has lately been updating fans on her social media channels and stated that she will be making a comeback soon.

5. Amrita Rao

Amrita Rao was a promising actress in the 2000s and starred in many hit films like Ishq Vishq and Main Hoon Naa. Her innocence, simplicity and au natural look captured the eyes of the audience and many believed she had a bright future in Bollywood. However, destiny had other plans for Amrita and she instead took a break from Bollywood and got married. Although she had made appearances at events and even weddings with her husband, she hasn’t been active in Bollywood for a long time.

6. Koena Mitra

Koena had made quite an impact on everyone when she acted in the films, Cash, Hungama and Dhoom. However, she was seen as a supporting and typecasted actress and never given the chance to shine. She recently made an appearance on the reality show Bigg Boss and admitted that she was not very serious about her acting career in Bollywood and hence did not perform well.

7. Celina Jaitly

Celina made her Bollywood debut with No Entry. In the film, she starred opposite Fardeen Khan. She made a few more film appearances in the comedy genre before she decided to quit acting and become a homemaker. She married a man named Peter Haag and decided to settle abroad with him. Celina had twin sons and later had two more sons but unfortunately one of the younger twins passed away after he was born. Celina is currently living her best life and having a good time with her children and husband.

Making a name for yourself in Bollywood is no easy task and we can understand why many women choose to quit working in films once they decide to get married and settle down. It is difficult to manage a combination of the two unless you have an incredibly strong support system at home.
