In the words of Ned Stark, “Winter is coming”, and with it, comes a lot of unnecessary weight gain. It’s easy to see why. Winter is that time of the year when everyone has to deal with a lot of weight gain. And well, we can see why. Who would want to go out and jog during the cold winter season, right? But there are a few tips you can follow to avoid gaining excess weight during this season. There are tonnes of ways in which you can maintain that summer bod you worked so hard to achieve even when the air starts to turn a little chilly. Here are some of them:

1. Don’t Quit Working Out

Chilly weather often makes it quite tough to exercise outside. However, no matter how lazy you are feeling, you will have to set a specific amount of time to exercise every day. If you can’t exercise every day, you should at least try exercising for around three to four days every week at the very least. Even if you cannot go out to exercise every week, you can try exercising at home instead and try yoga or skipping or even dancing and other forms of exercise.

2. Don’t Party On An Empty Stomach

Well, there’s not a lot of partying we can do while social distancing, but the few we do attend will definitely be stocked with food. The result is a tonne of weight gain and excess binging. Let’s be real, Christmas season is the best time to indulge in food and buy whatever you want. A good rule of thumb is to eat a lot of carbohydrates like carrot salad, bread, whole grains, and more. You should eat food that will keep your tummy full and happy.

3. Don’t Binge Drink

Yes, we get that party season and binge drinking go hand in hand but did you know that binge drinking is not a good thing at all. The simple way to avoid overindulging in booze is to make sure that you drink at least one glass of water before drinking alcohol as well as after. This also helps dilute the number of calories you consume. If you’re someone who likes to starve themselves so that they can drink more or get drunk more easily, cut that out. You need to make sure that you treat your body with the respect it deserves. Indulging in habits like excess alcohol consumption will cause a lot of damage to your liver.

4. Go Easy On The Hot Chocolate

Who doesn’t love a good chocolate milkshake with whipped cream? Or maybe hot chocolate with roasted marshmallows on top. Are you drooling yet? Because we most definitely are! Oh well, it’s still not a great idea to indulge in any of the following. You need to make sure that you’re going easy on the sweet drinks. As tempting as they may be, overloading on artificially sweetened drinks is a really bad idea. The amount of calories present in these drinks will leave you feeling bloated and heavy.

5. Eat Your Veggies!

It is essential that you stock your fridge with cauliflower, cabbage, broccoli, spinach, and other leafy greens that will keep you well-stocked and happy. Make these important superfoods an important part of your life. Adding nutrient-dense veggies to your dietary routine will reflect massively on the amount of weight you lose. Even if weight loss isn’t really your goal and you just want to maintain your weight, it’s a good idea to eat these veggies.

6. Cook Your Own Food

This is not just great advice for those of you who are working from home but it is also a great way to properly calculate your caloric intake. If needed, you should have soups, salads, and other light “appetizers” before having a full dinner meal. Don’t hesitate to indulge in some delicious puddings, comfort food and other “high-fat” desserts now and then. It’s okay to have a cheat day once in a while and treat yourself or else you will start to feel burned out.

7. Look For Healthier Alternatives

You need to make sure that you are eating food that is not too fat laden. If you’re someone who loves eating fried food, start grilling your food or cooking it in low-fat oil instead. If you tend to indulge in sweet snacks while at home, try eating chewing gum instead. It’s important to find ways to lower your snacking without compromising. There are plenty of popular brands in the market that cater to some incredible food requirements and you can find whatever you need online.

When it comes to maintaining weight, you need to be careful and make sure that you follow some basic healthy ways to keep your body healthy even during winter. Have you been having a hard time keeping off the winter weight? Please let us know in the comment section below!
