Due to the lockdown restrictions imposed by the government, many of us are seeking entertainment through online gaming and streaming services. Many filmmakers have also decided that their movies will gain more viewership if they release it online. Entertainment streams like Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney + Hotstar, and many others are booming during this time as more and more people have time to spare during the lockdown. Many of us used to watch our favorite episodes on our commute to work or when we were done with an exhausting workday. Since everyone is working from home during this time, people have more time for entertainment. So here are a few movies and shows you have to watch out for in the coming few months:

1. Gunjan Saxena

This film is based on the life of the heroic and profoundly intelligent IAF pilot, Gunjan Saxena. It stars Jahnvi Kapoor in the lead role and Angad Bedi, Manav Vij, and Pankaj Tripathi in supporting roles. The film details the brave story of the pilot during her youth and how she rose through the ranks and became the first Indian female airforce pilot in combat. It is set to be released on Netflix on the 12th of June and has been produced by Dharma Productions.

2. Shakuntala Devi

This movie is a biopic based on the life of India’s first “human computer”, a woman named Shakuntala Devi who could solve complex problems and equations in a matter of seconds! Vidya Balan stars in the new film, which is set to be released on Amazon Prime and has been directed by Anu Menon. Sanya Malhotra also stars in a lead role in the film.

3. Bulbbul

Anushka Sharma is set to headline her second production for the streaming service Netflix. The film is said to be a supernatural thriller reminiscent of Anushka’s role in the film Pari. It also stars her Pari co-star, Parambrata Chattopadhyay, Rahul Bose, Tripti Dimri, Paoli Dam, and Avinash Tiwari in lead roles. The film is set to be released on the 26th of June.

4. Aarya

Aarya is Sushmita Sen’s debut on the web screens and is based on the Dutch crime-drama, Penoza. It is set to be released on the Disney + Hotstar streaming service and was created by Ram Madhvani. The nail-biting trailer was released a few days ago and we cannot wait to catch it on the 19th of June.

5. Laxmi Bomb

Featuring Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani in lead roles, Laxmi Bomb is a horror-comedy. The film was directed by Raghava Lawrence and the storyline revolves around a man who is possessed by the ghost of a transgender woman. Although the film was set to be released on the 22nd of May in theatres across the country, it was canceled due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

6. Dilli

Dilli is a socio-political drama that stars Saif Ali Khan, Sarah Jane Dias, Sunil Grover, Dimple Kapadia, and Mohd Zeeshan Ayub in lead roles. The show was conceptualized by famed director, Ali Abbas Zafar. The script features Saif Ali Khan donning the role of a politician on his ascent up the political chain. The series is set to be aired in the month of October.

7. Gulabo Sitabo

Gulabo Sitabo is Amitabh Bachchan’s return to screens and also features Ayushmann Khurrana in a lead role. The film has been directed by critically acclaimed film director, Shoojit Sirkar. The hilarious dramedy is set to be released on streaming services on the 12th of June. The film is set in the city of Lucknow and involves Amitabh Bachchan who plays the role of a landlord with a very pesky tenant. Shoojit has worked with both Ayushmann as well as Amitabh in prior films and this will be their second and third films with the director respectively.

You’re definitely in tune for an entertaining couple of months with all these shows and films being released. While we will all miss the feeling of purchasing overpriced popcorn and soda and watching the film with a bunch of people, it is much safer to avoid public gatherings every chance you get. Although you must be brimming with anticipation, some of these series and movies will be released a little later this year so keep your eyes peeled to the nearest screen.
