Those who work desk jobs can attest to the fact that it is quite a difficult task to stay healthy, both mentally and physically while working in a seated position all day long. Many of us tend to feel exhausted and cannot go out and exercise after a bit because we get used to the sedentary routine. In fact, it is more difficult to stay fit and motivated due to this fact. As time goes by, the more healthy you feel, the more likely it is to have an effect on your routine. You need to find ways to break through the routine to feel more motivated and healthy. In the end, the most challenging part is to simply have the motivation to start a new routine and keep yourself sane. So let’s take a look at some easy and fun ways in which you can stay physically and mentally active at a desk job:

1. Eat Healthy

It should go without saying that eating healthy and staying active are extremely important in order to live a good quality life. Although fast food options are readily available and seem like the best option given how hectic our lives are, at the same time, it is not sustainable to eat fast food and junk food. Instead, you should look into making some easy-to-cook food or if you absolutely cannot cook to save your life, order from home chefs and healthy restaurants.

2. Make New Friends

This one is a must if you want to develop healthy relationships with the surrounding colleagues. Talk to your co-workers. You can break the ice by offering them some delicious food treats or by offering to help them at a task they might be having a tough time with. Although socializing can be difficult if you’re an introverted person, it can be super fun to get out of your comfort zone. After all, what’s the worst that could happen?

3. Take Frequent Breaks

It is absolutely crucial that you take breaks now and then in order to maintain your sense of sanity. Even if you’re not a smoker, taking a break to just stretch or stand outside your office on a terrace is always recommended. You should also ensure that you take a lunch break so that you can recharge and be more productive.

4. Listen To Lo-Fi Music

Lo-fi music is very calming and doesn’t distract much. If you find your office environment too distracting and find that you cannot focus on the task at hand, you should definitely play some Lo-Fi music for yourself. Doing this will help you focus and get your work done much faster. This works well even if you’re working from home and are surrounded by noisy children or live in a noisy neighborhood.

5. Practice Self-Care

It’s also extremely crucial to practice some form of self-care. Self-care can be anything from putting on a facemask to practicing some form of mindfulness and meditation. All it means is that you take certain time out from your day to do things that you love. You could do anything from reading a book, hanging out with friends to binge watching a movie.

6. Get Active

As mentioned earlier, staying active while working a desk job can seem like a daunting task simply because of how physically exhausted you can get. However, it is extremely crucial to stay active and do the things that you love even if it means tiring yourself to exhaustion. All you have to do is get out and get moving. Just take a walk on the streets outside your office or around your neighborhood if you’re looking for ways to keep yourself fit and active. Even if you cannot go outside, do some light stretches at your desk to help your body get more fluid.

7. Correct Your Posture

To keep your body feeling as loose and in its best shape and form, it is important that you make sure your posture is on point. Bad posture can not just lead to problems with your shoulders and neck, but it can also cause problems with the alignment of your spine and can eventually lead to you developing a hunched back and other long term health conditions. You can even get yourself a standing desk if you don’t prefer sitting all day long.

By being proactive and careful about the ways in which you sit or the ways in which you move forward in your day-to-day life, you can make sure that you don’t feel burnt out. While it’s totally natural to feel dull and gloomy after sitting in the same place for a long duration of time, it’s up to you to ensure that you stay fit and healthy.
