7 Alternatives To Shampoo That Can Be Found In Your Kitchen Pantry

Shampoo was actually not a very popular part of our bathing regime until very recently in the 20th century. Before shampoos came into the picture, people relied on natural cleansers that they used to make from the materials they found around them rather than using artificial ingredients. Unfortunately, soap isn’t a very safe option, and because of this, shampoo was a better choice. However, unless you’re the kind of person who can afford to buy organic shampoo, you know that most of the shampoos in the market contain parabens and other chemicals that can cause damage to your hair. Many people are even giving the “No-Poo” movement a try. This is why people try to find alternatives to regular shampoos. Here’s a list of shampoo alternatives that we can find wherever we look:

Baking soda is one of the most common and popular alternatives to shampoos that people can find. It is not just good for your hair, but it is a great way to exfoliate your skin, and it can remove dead skin cells and dirt as well as reduce excess oil that might be present on your scalp. It’s also a great way to relieve itching and scaliness and gently detox your hair. You can mix one tablespoon of baking soda with one cup of water. If your hair is thick and curly, it may need more soda, while thin and dry hair may need less.

Due to the acidity present in apple cider vinegar, it can slow down the growth of yeast infections and other issues that could be causing hair loss. Apple cider vinegar provides you with essential vitamins and other minerals that help your hair regain its strength, smoothness, and shine. To make your very own apple cider vinegar shampoo, mix a tablespoon of it with a cup of water in one bottle and shake it before making use of it.

The citric acid that is present in lemon contains antimicrobial properties and makes for a great cleanser, especially if you have dandruff-affected hair. It also works as a great natural lightener for your hair as well. All you have to do is squeeze a tablespoon of lime juice in two cups of water and shake it before pouring this mix into your hair. Now massage it for 2 to 3 minutes, and then wash it off. You will be able to notice the results very quickly.

Coconut oil is a brilliant multitasking alternative for shampoos and can be used for literally anything under the sun. You can use it for everything from getting rid of makeup to serving as a natural sunscreen. The oil is packed with nutrients and vitamins that stimulate hair growth and saves it from damaging environmental factors and other issues. Apply the coconut oil onto your hair for upto at least 20 to 30 minutes. This also comes in handy while treating dandruff.

Fenugreek seeds contain many proteins, vitamins, and acids that are incredibly essential to encourage hair growth. Fenugreek seeds also fight off fungi and bacteria and are also quite effective at reducing any caused hair loss. Moreso, Fenugreek is also used to treat conditions that can lead to irritated, dry skin, and other dandruff issues. Soak the fenugreek seeds in water overnight, grind one to two tablespoons of the soaked seeds, and pour one and a half cup of hot water into the powder. After this, you’ll be left with a slimy-looking mixture. Massage this mixture into your hair and leave it there for about 20 minutes before rinsing.
