If you grew up in a desi family, you know all about the yummy digestive candy/indigestion cure, Hajmola. You might have visited a cousin as a child and tried it at their place and later gotten addicted to it, or you might have seen one of the quirky TV ads and bought a sachet for yourself. Hajmola has been around for more than 40 years now, and everyone from your parents to your padosi next door has tried it. But there’s a huge difference between enjoying the tasty snack and being addicted to it. If you’re worried about being addicted to your bottle of Hajmola, here are nine signs that you could be:

1. You Keep A Bottle On Your Nightstand

You have to keep your Hajmola bottle as close to you as possible, even when it’s nighttime. It doesn’t matter if you accidentally smack the bottle off your nightstand, but you have to have it there. If there is an emergency situation, you know that that’s the first thing you’re going to grab before you run out your door.

2. You Can’t Just Eat One Hajmola

There’s a reason why the bottle states one to two tablets a day. It’s because overdoing anything can upset your stomach. However, does anybody really follow that advice? There are plenty of desi folks who brag about donning a bottle a day and surviving to tell the tale. Of course, we would warn you don’t overeat the treat or else you’ll have to become best friends with your toilet the next day. Even if you try to force yourself to eat just one hajmola daily, we bet that you probably can’t resist the temptation.

3. You Know And Have Personally Tried Every Flavor

One of the best things about this tasty treat is that there are so many magnificent flavors! You can try nimbu, imli, kaccha aam, pudina, cola, and even more. True Hajmola addicts wait with bated breath for the company to release a new flavor. The anticipation of finding the candy makes it even more worth it when you actually do. However, in the end, you always revert back to imli flavor, as it’s the tastiest and most commonly available flavor.

4. You’ve Turned Your Friends Into Addicts As Well

Every time your friends come over, you go out of your way to hide your Hajmola bottle because you know your friends are going to pounce on it as soon as they find it. Since you carry your hajmola wherever you go, you’ve managed to convince your friends to get past its smell and give it a try. Unfortunately, they too have turned into Hajmola addicts like you and will forever try to eat your candy.

5. You’ve Woken Up After A Nap With Hajmola Stuck To You

Every Hajmola addict has had those days when they have fallen asleep with a tablet next to them and woken up to it being melted and squished against your skin. You’ve probably then licked the remnants of the Hajmola off your skin too. Well, we can’t say we blame you.

6. You Don’t Go Travelling Without A Bottle Of It

What if you go somewhere where there are no bottles of Hajmola available? The thought of this is enough to convince you not to leave your home without the bottle. Now you’ll probably find the digestive treat in all corners of the country, so you don’t really have to carry a bottle wherever you go.

7. Your Partner Is Sick And Tired Of Your Hajmola Breath

You’ve accepted the fact that your partner is not as addicted to Hajmola as you are. They probably make jokes about your hajmola breath all the time. The truth is that they don’t understand your love for the tablets as much as we do! For those of us who love Hajmola, bad breath is something we aren’t concerned about as our love for the tablet precedes anything else.

8. Nothing Else Gives You The Same Level Of Satisfaction

You’ve tried experimenting with other candies and namkeen treats, but nothing gives you the same feeling you get when you eat Hajmola. No matter where you go and how many treats you try, nothing will provide you with joy more than eating a Hajmola tablet.

While not many people may understand the struggle of being addicted to eating Hajmola, the much-loved digestive treat is consumed by thousands of Indians all across the country. In fact, the treat is so popular that you will find plenty of people eating it overseas as well. Don’t worry if nobody in your family or friend circle understands your love for Hajmola; there are plenty of folks who do! Do let us know if you can relate to any of these statements in the comment section below!
