We all know how with age, we tend to change. Both physically and emotionally. Especially for women, the change from the 30’s to 40’s becomes quite a jump. During this period, a woman might also notice some noticeable changes in her skin, owing to loss of volume and elasticity, leading to skin sagging and wrinkles. Drinking lots of water, eating a diet rich in Vitamins, protecting your skin from the sun are some ways to protect your skin. However, doing this does not overlook the need for good makeup, which can help cover up those tiny signs of the 40s that have started to show, making you look and feel younger by almost ten years!

1. Know Your Undertones

This is a significant step in deciding the right makeup for your skin. You could be having a cool, warm or neutral undertone, which would be the basis for deciding which colors would go best for your skin. So, the next question is how you will identify your undertone? Very simple, see how your jewelry looks on you. If you glow in gold, you have a warm undertone, if you shine in your silver, you have a cool undertone, and if both look great on you, you have a neutral undertone.

2. Use a Hydrating Primer

Just like a body shaper does wonders to give a shape to your body and accentuate any dress you wear, a primer used as a base will do wonders to any makeup you decide to apply. It can also be used as a base to even out your skin tone, giving you that no-makeup smooth, natural look. When selecting go for a hydrating primer as it will not only help retain moisture but will allow for smoother application of makeup.

3. Foundation

Coming to the foundation, choose one that goes best with your skin tone. Using a shade fairer or darker might leave your face a different color than the rest of your body. The best is to use a shade that blends naturally with your skin tone. We suggest going for one that packs in hydration and sun protection. This helps retain moisture on the skin and protects from the UV rays. Also, a hydrating foundation will help ease those fine lines and wrinkles, a much-needed feature for those in their forties!

4. Concealer

Now, this is one of the trickiest parts of your makeup and gets trickier as you enter your forties! A good concealer has the capability of making you look younger instantly. We tend to depend on a concealer to cover flaws like age spots, fine lines, and wrinkles with age. When ordering one, it would be smart to go for a concealer that matches the tone of our foundation because a tone mismatch can only end up blotching our face in places instead of concealing those imperfections!

5. Blush

Blush is a must to give your skin that healthy pinkish tinge. However, the safest colors to go with in your forties would be peach or pink. Also, you need to select your blush depending on your skin type. Powder blushes are more advisable for those with oily skin, while those with dry skin can safely select cream-based blushes. A cream-based blush will also help give your cheeks a translucent, natural effect.

6. Eyebrow Kit

Eyebrows play a vital role in adding contour to your face while framing your eyes. When shaped correctly, they can enhance the color of the face and brighten it, taking off a few years from your age! We suggest using a pomade since the color is long-lasting and does not give a drawn-in look like a pencil. It is also recommended to select a shade two shades darker than your hair for a bold and voluminous look.

7. Eye Makeup

Do not underestimate the importance of eye makeup. The right shades can help you look younger, more relaxed, and fresh! When it comes to eyeshadow, we advise that you go for warm matte tones that resemble light or warmth instead of brown or grey tones, that can make your eyes look tired. While for darker complexions, colors like peach and oranges are good, people with lighter tones should stick to shades like vanilla or light mocha bases. Coming to eyeliner, this is your best bet for illuminating your eyes. However, try to apply it in a single stroke and keep it thin, contouring the lashes.

8. Lipsticks

As you age, what do you think? Should you settle for nude shades and that matte look? Wrong! Age might lead to a lack of hydration in the skin, leaving your lips dry and chapped. Applying moisturizing, bright, shaded lipstick can give your lips the much-needed oomph. Also, do not forget to add a little bit of gloss for that shine.

So as we can see, with a change in time, a slight change in makeup will only end up adding more grace and style to our looks. After all, isn’t it true that life starts at forty? So let’s keep the world guessing our age while we enjoy every bit of aging gracefully!
