Due to the economic uncertainty caused by the lockdown, many people have lost their jobs and have had to return to their hometowns. Like numerous other people from small villages, a farmer named Nageswara Rao too had migrated to the town of Madanapalle where we had been working as a tea seller at his tea stall for over 17 years. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic and ongoing lockdown, he was forced to return back to his hometown and find other means of employment. While he did have fields, Nageswara Rao could not afford expensive rental rates for a pair of oxen or a tractor. Read on to find out what happened:

Dutiful Daughters

Since Nageswara could not afford to rent a plow or even oxen, his two daughters decided to pitch in and help him. In the video that was shared online, you can see the entire family working very hard in the blistering Andhra heat to plow the fields. Nageswara’s strong and kind daughters, Vennela and Chandana used a yoke to till the land with their father and mother guiding them and helping out. The kind-hearted daughters empathized with their father and decided to contribute to plowing the fields themselves.

After the video was shared online, many expressed their support for the farmer and his family and some even tagged actor Sonu Sood in the post. Much to their surprise, the popular actor responded to the tag and took to his Twitter account to share that he would be sending the family a tractor because they didn’t just deserve oxen. The actor had earlier tweeted, “Tomorrow morning he will have a pair of ox to plow the fields. Let the girls focus on their education. Farmers are the pride of our country. Protect them.’’

On Sunday, the actor made a call to Nageswara to enquire about the situation but due to a language barrier, they couldn’t properly communicate. Sonu had a brief conversation with the farmer and informed him that he would get in touch with him very soon. After this conversation, Sonu had tweeted out the message that he would be purchasing a tractor for the family. Nageswara was then called by a representative of Sonu Sood who enquired about his address details and later a call from Sonalika tractors at Madanapalle (1).

Reactions From The Family And Sonu’s Fans

“He might play a villain in films but he is a hero in real life. When we heard the reports of him helping thousands of migrant workers to reach their native states, we thought he is a real hero. We experienced it now. He is no less than a God to us,” Nageswara stated in an interview with a leading newspaper. When his daughters were asked why they plowed the fields, they stated that they knew that their family was suffering due to their financial restraints and they wanted to help out in any way they could. The girls added that they had immense respect for the actor and that they thanked him from the bottom of their hearts.

Sonu’s kind act won the praise of many people on social media. TDP leader N Chandrababu Naidu too praised the actor for his efforts. The politician tweeted that he was moved by Sonu Sood’s efforts and that he too would provide for the education of the two young women. On social media, many people have praised Sonu for his efforts. Many have even cracked jokes about the actor being superman and the hero that we all deserve during these dark times.

The actor has been rescuing migrants and sending them to their hometowns ever since the government declared the first lockdown. One migrant was quoted as saying ” Sarkar agar humare liye kuchh nahi bhi karega, toh Sonu Sood toh humara madad karega (Even if the government does not help us, Sonu Sood will)”. For many of these migrant laborers, the tickets back home have doubled in pricing.

The actor managed to send thousands of migrants back home with a little help from his friends and inspired many other people one of who included celebrity chef, Vikas Khanna to lend these people a helping hand. The actor had organized for migrant workers to return to their home states of Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, and a few others. But Sonu hasn’t just been the voice of migrant workers. The actor also helped 117 migrant factory workers in Kerala reach home in Odisha. The generous actor arranged for them to be airlifted from the location. Sonu also opened the doors of his hotel in Juhu to lodge healthcare workers who are fighting against the pandemic (2).

The talented actor who comes from a background of humble beginnings in the state of Punjab has always been involved with charitable endeavors. He named his charitable organization, Professor Saroj Sood Trust, after his mother who used to teach underprivileged children for free. The actor also calls his parents inspiration for his actions. He had shared that his father used to offer langar from their clothes shop in his hometown of Moga. He added that his parents had instilled helping others at a young age and said that that was the only way for people to achieve success in life. Do you believe Sonu Sood is the hero we deserve?
