As 2020 Comes To An End, Let’s Look Back At All The Legendary Celebrities Who Left Us This Year

2020 was a year when we had to part with many incredibly talented celebrities from various fields in entertainment. From football star Diego Maradona to famed Bollywood choreographer Saroj Khan, 2020 brought with it some bitter goodbyes. These celebrities have left behind a legacy in their wake and have proven that there can be nobody like them. With their incredible talents and skills, they bore a deep hole into our hearts and shall stay there for decades to come. Most of these deaths came as a major shocker to fans of the superstars and some were absolute tear jerkers. Let’s take a look back at how 2020 brought us the loss of many incredible celebrities:

1. Diego Maradona

The Argentinian legend who stole everyone’s hearts on the football field succumbed to a cardiac arrest at age 60. He was adored by fans and many mourned his loss and cursed the year that is 2020. The incredibly talented football player was one of the key figures behind Argentina’s historic World Cup win in 1986.

2. Irrfan Khan

Irrfan Khan was a renowned actor all over the world and had played many roles across multiple film industries. He was a true artiste and pursued a degree from the National School of Drama. It was his incredible love for his craft that inspired him to be an actor and his versatile and warm roles made him a household name. Unfortunately, after being diagnosed with a colon infection, the actor met his demise at the age of 53.

3. Rishi Kapoor

Just when the world was coming to terms with the loss of Irrfan Khan, we were hit with the news of Rishi Kapoor’s passing. The veteran actor had been battling cancer for sometime and passed away at the age of 67. He was known for his immense good looks in his youth and had a prolific career spanning at least 50 years.

4. Chadwick Boseman

Although Chadwick Boseman had been around the block, it was his role in Academy Award winning film, Black Panther that catapulted him to fame. The film made history as being the first superhero films to be nominated for the Best Picture Award at the Academy Awards. This was a huge move for the superhero genre and made Chadwick Boseman a much-loved figure. Unfortunately, the actor’s life was cut short too soon and he died of cancer at the age of 43. Many fans mourned his loss and created artwork to commemorate his achievements.

5. Soumitra Chatterjee

For Bengali cinema lovers, the loss of Soumitra Chatterjee was of utter shock. The legendary actor had been known for his incredible work in Bengali cinema and was a favorite of the likes of Satyajit Ray. Soumitra had played a remarkable performance in the final installment of the Pather Panchali trilogy. The actor met his demise at the hands of the coronavirus and took his last breath on November 15th in Kolkata.

6. Sean Connery

You cannot think of Bond without thinking of Sean Connery. The famed actor met his demise at the age of 90 after suffering from a lengthy illness. He will always be remembered as the original James Bond and loved for the iconic swagger and style he brought to the role. Remember, “Shaken, not stirred.”

7. Saroj Khan

Working with the greatest of legends, Saroj Khan was like a godmother to all. She choreographed everyone from the late Sridevi to Kajol, Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit. Her incredible body of work includes choreographing some of Bollywood’s most popular and well known songs. Unfortunately, the incredible legend met her demise following a cardiac arrest at the age of 71.


8. Kobe Bryant

Kobe Bryant’s demise came as a shocker to the world. The talented NBA player and his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, were in a helicopter when things took a turn for the worse and they crashed. There were unfortunately no survivors of the accident and the world was left in shock at their untimely deaths.

9. Sushant Singh Rajput

Sushant Singh Rajput’s death also came as a major shocker to all of his fans. The Kai Po Che actor had inspired a generation of youth and was an idol to them. Unfortunately, he was struggling with mental health issues and decided to take his own life on June 14th. What followed was a national scandal and a probe to find out the actual cause of the actor’s death.

10. Dianna Rigg

Dianna Rigg was most popularly known to our generation as the savage and cunning character of Lady Olenna Tyrell on the hit show Game Of Thrones. From her first scene to her very fitting last scene, she had us hooked onto her storyline. Before Game Of Thrones, she was known for starring in the British version of the television show, The Avengers, and many other popular shows. During her youth, she was known for her incredible good looks.

11. SP Balasubrahmanyam

One of the most prolific and talented musicians in the Indian entertainment industry, SP Balasubrahmanyam was an unparalleled legend. He was known for being the voice behind many of Salman Khan’s hit songs and had sung songs for various industries and in multiple languages across the country. Unfortunately, SP Balasubrahmanyam contracted the coronavirus and passed away at 74 in Chennai. His loss was mourned by many across the Indian entertainment industry.

2020 was a terrible year for many of us and it truly was heart-wrenching to lose so many people, some close to us, and others that we admired. We should move forward into the next year feeling grateful to be alive and breathing and try to better ourselves as individuals.
