7 Style Tips That Can Turn Your Summer Clothes Into Gorgeous Winterwear

Written by Niharika Nayak, BA (Media & Communication)  •

The freezing season of winter is here and with it comes the chills, thrills, and frills associated with the weather. While it may be sweater weather, you don’t necessarily have to get out and buy a whole new wardrobe for this season. 2020 has been the year of sustainability and all about channeling sustainable fashion. Rather than investing in new sets of winter clothes, you can simply reuse the old summer clothes by rocking layers or other looks. Here are a few ways in which you can take your winter fashion game up a notch without spending too much:

1. A Trenchcoat For A Summer Dress

Turn that pretty cotton summer dress into something you would appreciate wearing during winter by adding on a blazer and a pair of tights. If you want to add an additional layer of warmth, you can opt for a trenchcoat and throw that onto your shoulders. You can also play mix and match with some colorful scarves and pull on a pair of stockings to keep yourself feeling warm as well as looking chic during this time. Layering is one of the best ways to beat the cold winter blues.

2. Blazers And Ethnic Wear Can Go Well Together

Deciding on what to wear during winter can be a heady task to accomplish. If you’re attending a formal event during winter but don’t want to ruin the look with a shawl that covers up your beautiful saree, you can wear a blazer with it. There’s no harm in opting for a not-so-traditional outfit every now and then. Trying on an outfit that might not necessarily fit the norm is totally okay. You don’t need to constantly wear an outfit to suit the vision of others. So the next time you want to rock that beautiful georgette saree or colorful anarkali, don’t think twice about adding an element of a western fusion to it. You can also go for gold and add a slim belt at the waist to cinch it in a bit. Even a woolen blouse is great for keeping you warm and cozy if you’re worried about getting too cold.

3. Rock Those Colors

Who says you have to go all dull, gloomy, and grey for the winter? Why not kick your winter fashion up a notch and wear bright, vibrant, and wonderful colors that will leave you totally in love with the season? Sure, winter may be a dull time of the year and a part of you just wants to curl up and stay indoors all day but hey, that’s not how life works. While most of us are confined to the inside of our homes because of the pandemic, that doesn’t mean that we can’t get a little extra when we get to go outside and explore. Who cares if bright colors aren’t necessarily winter wear? Own those colors and rock your favorite styles.

4. Invest In Stockings And Leggings

The best way to style your summer clothes for the winter is to invest in items like stockings and leggings that will help you keep warm even when the world around you gets colder. A pair of black leggings work incredibly well with any sweater you can think of and are brilliant accompaniments for any outfit you decide to wear. Take your time and choose the one that fits you best. No girl’s wardrobe is complete without a classic pair of black leggings or stockings.

5. Wear Unusual Combinations

Got a band shirt that was your go-to for the summer vacations? Well, you can definitely style the outfit with a thick denim skirt or you could wear a poofy flared skirt and stockings at the bottom. You might find this look a little too “camp” or punk rock but that doesn’t mean it is bad! Elevate your style by taking fashion risks you might not necessarily take otherwise. Rock those lovely shirts and wear those frilly skirts. After all, nobody can really tell what your face looks like if you’re wearing a mask, right?

6. Even Ripped Jeans Can Be Fashionable

Ripped jeans are a very bold fashion statement to make and while some people might not necessarily find them fashionable, you cannot deny their everlasting nature. If you want to rock those popular ripped jeans during winter, you can simply layer them with a sultry pair of fishnet stockings or even thermals on the inside.

7. Wear A Turtleneck Under Your Spaghetti Strap Dresses

Spaghetti strap tops are so not winter-friendly. It’s difficult to wear clothes that you consider light and breezy outside during winters, but it’s not impossible. Turn your spaghetti strap dresses into wonderful outfits by rocking a nice turtleneck top on the inside. If your dress is vibrant and colorful, you can go for a plain basic turtleneck in a more muted color so that your dress remains the centre of attention.

The shifting of seasons doesn’t mean that you need to break your wallet to buy new outfits. Don’t let the changing weather impact your sense of style. Give the tips on our list a try and we guarantee your winter will be just as stylish, if not more, as your summer. Let us know all of your thoughts in the comment section below.
