When Sridevi entered the entertainment industry at the ripe young age of 4, nobody knew she would go on to become one of India’s most iconic actresses. The demure and introverted actress made her debut with the Tamil movie Kandan Karunai in the year 1967. She then went on to star in a few more Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and Malayalam films as a child artiste. The actress made her entry into Bollywood with Rani Mera Naam in 1972. However, it was only in 1979 that she was given the role of a lead actress in Bollywood. Sridevi made her Hindi film debut as a heroine in the film Solva Sawan. Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl actress, Jahnvi Kapoor Sridevi’s elder daughter, shared a throwback b&w image of them in happier times. Sridevi had passed away in 2018 a few months before the release of her daughter’s first film, Dhadak. The family was stunned at the news and the media frenzy that followed was even more shocking. Sridevi was once called the “first female superstar” of Bollywood and stole people’s hearts with her innocent looks and big doe eyes. Janhvi too followed in her mother’s footsteps and caught the acting bug.

Sridevi’s husband, Boney Kapoor too shared an image of his late wife on his Twitter account and dedicated a heartfelt message to her. The actress would have turned 56 today. Boney wrote about how he misses Sridevi, his Jaan, dearly, and that he wishes she was here to celebrate their daughter Janhvi’s performance in her new film. The adorable throwback picture featured a young Boney and Sridevi holding their baby girl, Janhvi Kapoor in their arms. Sridevi and Boney had last worked on her Hindi film, Mom in the year 2017. Sridevi was posthumously awarded a National Film Award for Best Actress the following year

There is no denying that the actress is a fashion icon. She had acted in over 130 films across various regional languages and had created fashion goals for young fans everywhere. The actress was known for rocking some of the loudest and vivacious looks that were in stark contrast to her quiet personality and demeanor. Here are five of her most iconic looks:

  • Golden Dress In Mr. India

Who can forget the evergreen and easy-going songs from the classic film, Mr. India? Although the actress is remembered for her gorgeous blue saree in the film, the glittery golden gown she wore in the song Hawa Hawai deserves special mention simply because of how well-loved it was. The classic dress grabbed so many eyeballs that it made its way into Madame Tussauds in Singapore. Yes, the iconic wax museum placed a life-size replica of Sridevi in her glittery dress and unveiled it with the blessings of her family. Janhvi, Boney as well as Sridevi and Boney’s younger daughter Khushi made their way to Singapore to attend the unveiling of the wax figure.

  • Yellow Chiffon Saree In Chandni

The actress showed off her shapely figure in a beautiful chiffon saree in her film Chandni. In the film, Sridevi starred opposite Rishi Kapoor, and their romantic dance sequence set many Indian hearts on fire. However, the gorgeous chiffon saree she wore in the song Tere Mere Hothon Pe was what caught fans’ attention and remained popular for decades to come.

  • All Pink Outfit In Chaalbaaz

Sridevi essayed the role of two characters in this film with such ease, you’d think she had a twin. The actress starred alongside Rajinikanth in Chaalbaaz and rocked a feisty all pink outfit from her heels to her jacket and hair tie.

  • Chic Headband In Gumraah

Well before notorious tomboy Anjali from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai came into the picture, it was Sridevi rocking those cute bright colored hair bands. In Gumraah. Sridevi rocked the headband look waaay before it became a thing for people to wear. Clearly, the actress was well ahead of her time, as the headband trend really caught on in the early 2000s.

  • Floral Printed Sarees In English Vinglish

Sridevi stole the show as the sweet yet determined Shashi Godbole in the film English Vinglish. She plays a housewife/entrepreneur who is determined to take classes and learn English while she is on holiday in New York City. She showcases her transformation from a demure Indian housewife to a strong and confident woman through the choice of her outfits as the story continues. Her beautiful, traditional yet functional sarees caught the eyes of many women and made hand-printed sarees trend again.
