So the government imposed lockdown hasn’t been easy on most of us. For many of us, these past few months have been a whirlwind of a journey as we’ve had to grow accustomed to life in the “new normal”. What is this “new normal”? Well, masks are now everyday clothing layers and we need to ensure we wash our hands and never touch our face in public.

Although India seemed to be faring well on the mortality rate scale compared to the rest of the globe, there has been a drastic increase in the number of people catching the virus. But for people, living alone, catching the virus is an even bigger scare. It doesn’t matter if you’re 23 or 35, living alone during times of crisis isn’t an easy task even for the mightiest of bravehearts. So, here are a few tips on how to cope and thrive during a pandemic while living by yourself:

1. Nurture Your Friendships

Lockdown is the perfect time to repair and mend old friendships that might have gotten strained over the years. This is also a good time to talk to your regular friends on the phone and exchange kitchen recipes and other interests. Although you’re not living with your family, that doesn’t mean you can’t video call them and catch up every now and then.

2. Pay Attention To Your Body

It’s important to focus on both your mental and physical health during this time. If you’re living alone, you should ensure you take good care of your body and make sure your immunity is at its maximum. You can also consult a doctor regarding how to keep your body in its best shape and if there are any over-the-counter supplements you can consume to boost your immunity.

3. Dive Into A New Hobby

There’s nothing more rewarding than picking up a fun hobby and being good at it. If you were into a particular hobby before lockdown that you want to explore now, you should invest more time in it. Since you don’t have to worry about commuting through and from work, you have more time to spare.

4. Keep Track Of Your Overall Health

Monitor your overall health to ensure that you know the first signs to look out for when it comes to the virus. Although you are self-isolating and practicing strict measures, there is probably a low likelihood of you catching the virus. If you’re young, there might be lower chances of dying from the virus but at the same time, it is important to contact a doctor if you feel breathless or like you can’t function.

5. Call Someone If You’re Stressed Out

It’s okay to feel stressed out during a time like this. None of us could have predicted a global pandemic would have occurred. If you feel overwhelmed or like you need to talk to somebody it is important to reach out. If you’re tired of isolating yourself, maybe you could talk to a friend and ask them if they would be willing to go on a walk with you (while social distancing). Even calling up a random friend and catching up can lift your spirits. Just remember that it’s okay if your friend would rather socially isolate than meet you. This is a time where we should respect other people’s wishes of socially isolating.

6. Catch Up On Your Favorite Shows

Now is a good time to watch all your favorite shows and seasons. If you were someone who grew up watching F.R.I.E.N.D.S. or How I Met Your Mother, you can binge-watch all your favorite episodes from your shows or start a new series altogether. There are many groups on Facebook that are dedicated to binge-watching and discussing episodes online. They’re also super fun to join and make friends online.

7. Learn A Few Life Skills And Hacks

Have you ever wanted to learn how to cook or how to stitch? This is the perfect time to make use of the vast knowledge on YouTube and the interwebs to learn how to cook your favorite recipes. Although you’re probably used to surviving on a diet of oats, Maggi, and fruits, it’s a good idea to pick up on life skills that could help you out in the future. Plus, once this pandemic is over, you’ll end up being the best dinner party host.

Sure, surviving through tough times like this seems like a Herculean feat, but you’ll come out stronger and more confident in your life skills. The greatest thing about the 21st century is having access to the wonders of the internet and keeping in touch with loved ones through it. So no matter how rough times may get, you know that your loved ones are just one phone call away.
