What comes to your mind when you hear the name of the Bollywood actress, Kangana Ranaut? We’re guessing the word “fierce” because that’s what comes to my mind. Time and again, Kangana is one such Bollywood actress who has been making headlines for not just being a stand-alone actor but also for being a stand-alone voice in an industry that is traditionally male-dominant. From being this small-town ladki who set off on her own to make a career for herself in the Indian film industry, to now, being a successful actress with three national awards in her pocket, she surely has come a long way.
As an actor, she has evidently set the bar high and left many benchmarks that no other actor could even match up to. But, for the independent woman that she takes pride in being, she has made herself loud and clear as a strong voice in the film fraternity. She has always stood up for the right, voiced out her opinions on the most controversial incidents (even when the rest of the industry chose to keep mum). If you closely observe, the Simran actress has given us more than one life lesson that we need to learn from. Here are 5 such life lessons that we think Kangana has taught us all.
1. Let Your Success Do All The Talking
We cannot count the number of times when Kangana did not receive the support or respect from the industry she belongs to. Still, she continues to be unfazed and holds her ground on what she believes in. She surely has nurtured more of haters than lovers within the industry or India as a whole. Despite all of this, she continues to speak her mind. She doesn’t budge and continues to stand up for issues that matter to her and the women around her. She says that there is no point in paying heed to the numerous trolls or haters. She simply points out that you need to work hard and achieve all those milestones in life that people around you think you couldn’t.
2. Stand Up For What You Truly Believe In
Bagging a fairness cream endorsement deal is a big deal in India (the renumeration is quite sweet)! Well, at least for most Bollywood celebs. If you’re wondering why, well, because it means huge money with a bonus of being portrayed as the most beautiful and the most prettiest face. Kangana did not encourage this concept; she refused to endorse fairness creams. She said that as a celebrity, she has certain responsibilities and endorsing fairness brands will mislead the youth. And till date, she has managed to stand by her belief that everyone is beautiful and skin color doesn’t play a role in being beautiful.
3. Spread Your Wings And Fly Towards Your Dreams
Hailing from a small town in Himachal Pradesh, she initially was studying medicine. But she soon found out that it wasn’t what she was meant for. She left home at the tender age of 16 to pursue her dream of being an actor. She has faced fear, overcome it to be what she is today. No wonder she is known to be fierce, right? From being bullied for not being able to speak fluent English to her deadly curls that were a reason for her being rejected by many film production houses, she has fought them all. Look where she is now — living a larger than life image and being a role model for many who want to pursue their dreams. To overcome fear and climb the ladder of success by defeating all the odds is something that we all need to learn from her.
4. Speak About The Wage Gap
It isn’t new to us, is it? Be it as a teacher, a corporate worker, a businesswoman and even an actor — when it comes to paying or earning money, it’s the men who take home heavier cash bags (or let’s just say sacks) in contrast to women. Kangana, who has solely carried the weight of blockbuster hits like Queen, and Tanu Weds Manu on her shoulders, has been very vocal about this pay difference. She has even demanded an explanation about the same.
Of course, such things are not going to change overnight but voicing out what’s right is important. In the long run, we at least tried to change the age-old traditions that spoke of inequality and who knows, in the future, justice shall be served. And when it’s served, it will be the best dish ever.
5. To Take Criticism In Your Stride
Kangana was shown no mercy when it comes to criticism. From the way she spoke to the way she dressed up, the critics took her down, way too down till the point of complete rejection. But, that did not affect her. She groomed herself, worked on her flaws and shot to fame. She says that the only criticism she accepts is constructive criticism. She gives us goals when it comes to handling criticism, right?
Irrespective of what you are — an actor, a teacher, a C-suite executive or a student in their teens, we can definitely pick out a page from Kangana’s life and be inspired to not give up and make our dreams come true. So, keep going guys! And more power to you, Kangana!
