This Is The Kind Of Woman I Want To Be

Who said life was difficult? Life is like a walk in the park. The only catch is, for some, it’s like a walk in New York’s Central Park, and for others, it’s like ambling across Jurassic Park. For the lucky lot of us, life has been kind but when life decides to throw lemons at you, what do you do?

The past couple of months have been really rough on me. My personal and social life have been somersaulting at the fastest pace possible only to leave my head spinning, and my heart throbbing. Do you ever feel like you have been trapped in a cage full of problems and there’s no way out? Well, for months, I felt trapped like that. I’m sure you have all been through a rough patch at some point or the other. Be it going through that horrible break up which seemed like the end of the world or even worse, battling out in a broken home where the parents are at loggerheads and ready to pick a fight at the drop of a hat. Or it could be the frustration of umpteen number of futile attempts to kickstart your career. Whether it’s our personal life, social life (or the lack thereof) or a hectic professional life, we all have challenging days. But, how you deal with them is what makes the difference. That brings us to question of the day — What kind of a woman would you want to be when life is as calm as the ocean or as stormy as a tsunami?

Perhaps, the answer isn’t easy. So, every time I’m at crossroads, I take cues from the characters of my favorite movies and TV shows. You know, just to make things a little easy and more relatable. Based on a couple of my all-time favorites, here’s the kind of woman I want to be:

I Want To Believe In Myself Like Naina

Have you watched Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani? Give yourself a pat on the back if you answered in the affirmative and if you said no, you’re missing out! Naina, the character played by Deepika Padukone is who I want to be when faced with self-doubt and low self-esteem. Naina is a woman who dares to take off on a trek with people she barely knows. All she knew was, to believe in herself. She never changed herself for the world to notice her. She was comfortable in her own skin and she was happy. I want to be like her when I find myself drowning in self-doubt.

I Want To Be Badass Like Rani

Who could forget the queen of all the characters? Rani, the character played by Kangana Ranaut in Queen, not only inspires me to take solo trips every now and then but also reminds me that you don’t need a man in your life to be happy. Rani’s character is something that I take cues from when life throws surprises at me. Her ‘happy marriage’ comes to an end even before she ties the knot. But, she doesn’t let that sadness overpower her. Instead, she decides to move onto the next chapter of life and embarks on a journey of self-discovery. I want to be Rani when life gets uncertain.

I Want To Be Fearless Like Fara

Rightly called ‘Fearless Fara’, Anushka Sharma’s character in the movie Dil Dhadkane Do is another woman that I adore. She is a woman who writes her own rules. Fearless Fara taught me one valuable thing — never let other people dictate your life. After leaving her parents’ house, she fought for herself and made a name in the world of dance, her passion. She found herself a job that let her live life to the fullest. Even when her love interest breaks her heart, she is fierce and fearless. Her no-nonsense policy is something that I have adopted in my life.

I Want To Be Free-Spirited Like Laila

Laila, played by Katrina Kaif in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is by far my favorite character. She is a breath of fresh air and lives life one day at a time. Laila’s character made me realize that it’s not about leveling up your standard of living with money and expensive experiences, but it’s about being happy and content with the simplest of things. Her free-spirited nature is what I want to mimic as my personality. She lives life with no regrets. I want to be a woman like Laila when life gets too hectic.

I Want To Be Full Of Positivity Like Geet

Jab We Met was the movie that changed my perception of life. Geet is the poster child of positive vibes. Even after missing a train, being chased by lecherous men, and being dissed by her boyfriend, she picked herself up and led a life full of positivity. Of course, she took a little help from Shahid Kapoor, but isn’t that something that we can learn from? I want to be a woman like Geet, who isn’t bogged down by anything in life. I want to be the woman who throws caution to the wind and watches life unfold as it is. Because, when you are full of positivity, life is only as good as it gets.

Most importantly, I want to be kind of woman who isn’t just happy but also radiates happiness. I want to be a woman of substance, a woman of courage, a woman of undying determination, and a woman of all things positive. I want to be the kind of woman that brings stability to her own life but at the same time takes chances to discover bigger opportunities. I want to be the woman who doesn’t create problems but tackles them with utmost tact. I don’t want to be reduced to just a figure of 36-24-36 that seduces men. I want to be the woman whose mind holds the power to lock people’s attention. I don’t want to be someone who settles down, I want to be the woman who is restless and eager to explore the world. I want to be the kind of woman who learns from her mistakes and enjoys each moment. I want to be the kind of woman who is unstoppable.
