The first step to trying anything new can be a terrifying one. Even if it’s something as simple and easy as hitting the gym! You know that the gym is not going to be a scary place. In fact, it’s going to positively contribute to your health if you manage to attend it regularly. However, you still can’t help but dread the moment as you toss and turn in sweaty slumber!
At this point, don’t you wish there was a way to know how your first day is going to be even before it happened? While you can’t know for sure, you can definitely get some idea from the experiences of others! These real experiences of real women on their first day at the gym can act as a great reference point so you know what to expect when you walk in your sweats and open the door to the gym.

Here’s what 5 women shared about their experiences on their first day at the gym:

1. Finding The Right Outfit Is Not Going To Be Easy

“I thought the easiest part of going to the gym would be picking out clothes for it. But boy, was I wrong! Not only did I have to waste hours shopping for the ‘right’ clothes, but what I ended up purchasing still didn’t turn out to be perfect – something I only found out on my first day at the gym. As I walked in and began my first session, my pants ripped at the butt during a stretch. They actually turned out to be too tight instead of being snug! So yeah, you have to be very careful about what you wear to the gym or it’s not going to be pretty.”

2. You Won’t Find Many People With Toned Bodies

“I always thought the gym was a place full of healthy and attractive individuals with ripped bodies. So many of my friends have picked up hot dates at the gym that I couldn’t imagine it otherwise! So, I was very apprehensive on my first day as I was a tad bit visibly overweight and didn’t want any cute guy to see me. But the moment I got there, I realized that most of the people in the gym were far from being fit! In fact, many of them were way worse off than I was. So, that really reduced my nervousness as I felt like, okay I’m not the only unfit one here.”

3. Everything You Do In There Is Going To Cost You Extra

“My first day at the gym was an eye-opener! I had no idea that working out could get this expensive until I entered my gym for the first time. I had already paid a hefty fee to get a membership into this gym, so I kind of thought that a personal trainer was going to be a part of the fee I had paid. But no, that wasn’t to be! Soon after I entered, a personal trainer walked up to me and started detailing all the exercises I should do and will be doing here. He held a sort of mini orientation program for me and right after that was over, he started discussing his fee with me! So, lesson learnt. Everything in a gym comes at a price!”

4. There’ll Be No Written Instructions On How To Use The Equipment

“My first day at the gym was spent in a whirlwind of confusion. I hadn’t got myself a trainer as I thought using basic exercise equipment such as the treadmill or the bike would be way too easy. And if not, I was sure there would be some sort of instructions there. Well, I was in for a rude shock! The first thing I discovered was that operating these machines on my own wasn’t a piece of cake. And secondly, there were no instructions! So I had no idea what to do for an hour till an instructor finally saw me and helped me out. If the instructor hadn’t spotted me,  my first day would’ve been a total waste.”

5. Exercising Means Sweating Like A Pig

“I think they kind of underestimate the phrase “sweating it out at the gym” because, on my first day, I  was sweating like a pig. I have never exercised before, so maybe, that might have been the reason. But, even the strong air conditioners cannot stop the amount of sweat that drips out of you! It’s really a lot! No wonder a bottle of water and deo are absolute musts! One thing’s for sure though, this sweat feels really good.”
