The human body is a funny thing. It works from the moment it forms in the womb till death, repairing damages to muscles, tissues as well as more mental and emotional damages along with adapting to its external environment. Our body, being our temple should be taken care of by all means. Here are a few tips on how we can take care of our little treasure in the most bizarre ways possible.
Close One Eye
According to Dr. Mercola, it is easy to trick the mind to fall asleep again if you wake up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom and have trouble falling asleep afterward (1). The trick is to keep one eye open throughout the journey to the bathroom and back to bed. Why? It’s simple. When light enters both the eyes, your body believes that it is time for it to wake up. By keeping one eye closed your brain adjusts to the darkness at a faster pace making it easier for you to fall asleep once again.
Pull On Your Ear
Have you ever had a headache that just wouldn’t go away? It’s a common belief that head massages will help relieve the pain. However, another quick relief to a headache would be tugging your earlobes. The difference between both practices comes from the fact that while you massage your temples, you release the tension only around your eyebrows. The act of tugging the earlobes helps in relaxing the nerve pathways existing in your ears. This relaxes the whole body. To do this just pull your earlobes gently with your thumb and forefinger and feel that headache disappear.
The Right Way To Swallow Pills
No matter our age, the whole idea of taking a pill annoys many of us. A good tip to swallow pills with minimal effort is to place the pill on your tongue and drink some water without swallowing. You should then bow your head towards your chest and swallow. According to a Harvard University study, this simple trick improved pill consumption by 89% (2).
Thaw Your Brain
While we all love ice cream, iced beverages, basically anything cold on a hot summery day- we all hate brain freezes! A brain freeze occurs when we swallow something cold at a rapid pace and the brain, in turn, to protect itself from a sudden change in temperature causes a brain freeze. When this happens, a great idea would be to quickly place your tongue on the roof of your mouth. When this happens, the warmth of your tongue will help in relaxing the blood vessels relieving the headache.
Avoid Crying
Sometimes we find ourselves in situations where we feel like crying. However, not all situations are suitable for sudden bouts of emotion. The best way to avoid crying in such situations is to stare intensely at a few spots at different parts of a room. Notice the colors and patterns around that spot. This will distract your brain making you forget that you feel like crying.
Roll Your Head
The feeling of pins and needles is a common phenomenon which occurs when we have been sitting in one position for too long. It also occurs when there is a certain amount of weight over parts of our body which numb them. In such cases, to have some quick relief, there are two tips which may help.
- Tense the muscles around the affected area and shake it slowly until the feeling goes away.
- Roll your head side to side. This helps in releasing the nerves or vessels where the blood flow has been interrupted. This trick is restricted to upper body numbness and will not help with legs and feet.
Stop The Hiccups
There are many reasons as to why one may suffer from hiccups such as eating or swallowing too fast. Some cases of temperature changes in the body and sudden bouts of excitement can also cause hiccups to occur. A popular way to get rid of hiccups quickly is to swallow with your mouth open several times. This enables your diaphragm to relax and effectively makes your hiccups disappear.
Don’t Be Scared Of Needles
The fear of needles is not restricted to age. You can be a child of 3 or an adult of 70, and that fear exists regardless. However, the fear of needles can be reduced. During your next doctor’s visit, if you are to get a vaccine or injection, try coughing lightly during the procedure of preparation of the needle. Another effective trick is to indulge in conversation with someone about a topic which interests you. These distractions will help the body from noticing the needle making it easier for you to get that injection.
These are just a few of the many things our body is capable of. Explore the possibilities every day, from having sex to curing a cold to grabbing a pulse point to averse nausea. The human body contains secrets each more unique from the next.
