9 Tips For A Perfect Smile

We have all heard that no attire is complete without a smile, right? But what if it is the smile that embarrasses you the most, you know because of the stained yellow teeth of yours? It’s quite common for our teeth to get stained. Over time, as we consume food that’s soaked in oil and spices, our teeth get stained. Apart from that, other factors such as smoking, eating candies and even drinking tea can cause our naturally white teeth to become colored over time. And if you think brushing your teeth twice a day is enough to keep your teeth white, you are quite mistaken. It only keeps your teeth and gums healthy and protects them from all the germs that cause decay.

One way to get your teeth shining bright and white is to visit a dentist and get them treated with chemicals. This procedure is costly and is also likely to cause damage to the enamel of your teeth. To save you from the expensive procedures, we’ve curated a list of home remedies that will help maintain the shining luster of your pearly whites. If you follow these regularly, they are bound to make your teeth a few tones whiter and brighter. It is also going to make your gums healthier.

1. DIY Turmeric Toothpaste

Have you ever observed a beaver’s teeth? They are white! So white that it can put us dental-hygiene-loving humans to shame. Here’s a DIY toothpaste made from turmeric that can help you get beaver-like white, shiny teeth. All you have to do is mix one teaspoon of turmeric and with a teaspoon of coconut oil. To this mixture, you can add about 2-3 drops of mint oil. Use this mixture as toothpaste – it is going to clean your enamel, whiten your teeth, and even freshen your breath. And we all know that turmeric helps oral hygiene in more than one way (1).

2. Strawberry Paste

Take a few strawberries, crush them (you could even take a few and pop them in your mouth to eat as well). After that, add finely ground sea salt to the crushed strawberries and make a paste. Put some of this paste on your toothbrush and brush your teeth with it for a few minutes. Following this, rinse your mouth thoroughly. Do this once every two weeks, it will protect your enamel.

3. Tea Tree Oil

Herbs have always been beneficial for human health. Especially, herbs like tea tree. The tea tree oil has a lot of benefits for our health (2). To get shiny, white teeth all you have to do is take 5 drops of 100 percent pure tea tree oil, dilute it using a glass of water and use it to wash your mouth. You will start noticing positive results within a couple of weeks of regular use.

4. Activated Charcoal Mask

Nope, we aren’t talking about a face mask here. We’re talking about teeth mask. To make this, all you have to do is mix the charcoal powder with some water to obtain a creamy paste. Apply it on your teeth and leave it on for five minutes. Follow this step by rinsing your mouth and brushing your teeth. Activated charcoal is considered to be a natural teeth whitener, therefore, it’s a common ingredient in toothpaste being manufactured these days (3).

5. Coconut Oil

This oil has been traditionally used to maintain oral hygiene (4). Apply this oil on your teeth before you brush them and leave it on for 10–15 minutes. After that, brush your teeth thoroughly with your usual toothpaste. Do this twice or thrice a week, and notice your teeth become lighter by a few shades.

6. Banana Peel Whitener

Banana peels are a rich source of potassium, calcium and vitamin D – all of these make the teeth whiter. To use the banana peel as a whitener all you have to do is rub your teeth with the inside of the banana peel. Do it on both the sides of your teeth. Leave it on for about ten minutes and rinse it off by brushing your teeth. This will even help keep the dental plaque at bay.

7. Basil Leaves

Basil has certain properties that allow it to not only get rid of stains on the enamel of our teeth but dissolve the bacteria that causes dental plaque as well (5). Grind a few basil leaves to get a smooth paste. Once in a while, replace your regular toothpaste with this paste and brush your teeth with it.

8. Lemon Mouthwash

Consider using the humble lemon if you want your teeth to shine like pearls and also have a lemony-fresh breath. Take lemon juice and salt in the ratio of 3:1 and add a little water to it to make a mouthwash. Rinse your mouth with it after you’ve brushed your teeth. Use it 2–3 times a week. However, avoid using this mouthwash if you have any kind of inflammation in your mouth.

9. Aloe Vera

Turns out that the common beauty wonder, the aloe vera gel, isn’t just beneficial for our hair and skin, it also does wonders in the field of dentistry (6). Take some fresh aloe juice or gel and massage it onto your teeth with a toothbrush gently. Do this after you’ve brushed your teeth. This is bound to keep your teeth in the “white” of their health.
