10 Tips For How To Wear Bright Eye Shadow, Even If You Think

Written by Jyotsana Rao, BE  •

Autumn is the time when we think of bright and colorful shades. No harsh feelings for those smudgy brown shades and neutral colors, but there’s something sparkling about the season that makes bright colors more appealing. So, why not add those colors to your beauty toolkit?

Bright eyeshadows lie practically untouched in most women’s makeup kits. They look great on the models featured on magazine covers and posters, then why is it so difficult to recreate the bright eyeshadow look at home?

We have put together some pretty useful tips that will help you in your quest for a bright-eyed look. So, go ahead and start using your bright eyeshadow palettes from your makeup kits.

1. Prime Your Eyelids

Prep your eyelids with a neutral cream eyeshadow or an eyeshadow base. This will ensure that the pigments will stay for a longer time, and the color of the shadow will pop out against a matte, solid backdrop.

You can also use a concealer for priming your eyes.

2. Blend Well

Blending the eyeshadow gives the color a more natural and subtle look. After applying, soften the edges of the eyeshadow with a brush, or use your fingers, so that it doesn’t look harsh or stamped on.

Blending the eye shadow makes your eye makeup appear more professional.

3. Don’t Try To Coordinate Too Much With Your Outfit

The main idea behind colorful eye makeup is that it doesn’t need to match your outfit every time. Wearing the same shades and designs will appear too matchy – matchy. Instead, wear an eyeshadow that complements your skin tone and eyes, and choose a color that contrasts with your outfit.

For example, try a sheer purple eyeshadow if you are wearing a green outfit.

4. Apply Shades Strategically

Try the smokey eye style with bright shadows or create a dimensional shadow in your crease with a bright color. This looks very attractive.

Applying multi-colored shadow across the entire eyelid, starting from brow to the lash line, requires skill and imparts a professional look.

5. Define Your Eyes

Adding a couple of coats of mascara, adding a finishing touch with eyeliner, and brushing your eyebrows will keep your makeup sophisticated.

This will make your eyeshadow stand out even more!

6. Adjust The Eyeshadow For Day Or Night

During the day, the eyeshadow should be subtle. But at night, you can play as much as you want with it. Apply a shimmery shade or a layer of metallic cover over the matte shadow.

For an office-appropriate look, apply the bright eyeshadow across the lash line, and just smudge a bit onto the inner corners of the eyes.

Follow a simple mantra:

7. Keep The Rest Of Your Makeup To A Minimum

While opting for bright eye colors, try to keep the rest of your look neutral. It means no crazy contouring or bold lip color.

8. Use Eye Pencil As Your Eyeshadow

Use a bright colored eye pencil on your lids, smudge it with a flat brush, and blend the color all over the lids. Soften the look by using a contrast or a neutral shade on the outer corner of the eye. It helps to turn up the style quotient of your makeup without stealing too much attention.

9. For A Cohesive Look, Try Some Mix And Match

Add a pop of color to your bright look by bringing in some colors that are typically popular.

The transition from a neutral color to a brighter shade is much smoother.

10. Wear The Eyeshadow With Confidence

Bold and bright colors are not for the faint hearted. So, while wearing a bright eyeshadow, make sure you put up a confident front and rock the trend!
