Are You Underweight? 5 Tips You Can Follow To Gain Weight Easily

Written by Jyotsana Rao, BE  •

While some people are engaged in a constant battle to lose weight, there are others whose skinny selves make us green with envy. But let me tell you, it definitely isn’t something to be jealous of.

Gaining weight can be as difficult as losing weight. Whether you wish to add muscle mass to your body or simply look less like a string bean, gaining weight in a healthy way can be a challenging task for some people.

We are here to help you add muscle mass to your body and look good and healthy. But for this, all you need to do is chow down on a combination of proteins and a few healthy fats and follow these easy steps mentioned below.

1. Eat More Frequently.

If you’re underweight, your body tends to feel full faster. However, avoid skipping your meals. When you skip your meals, you indirectly deprive your body of the fuel that it needs to function properly. Instead, make it a habit of eating every four hours as it will help in maintaining consistency in your food pattern.

2. Try To Eat As Much As You Can At Once.

This doesn’t mean that you have to overstuff yourself. Instead, try to make clever combinations of food that will be filling and nutritious as well. For example, if you eat a banana and a handful of nuts for breakfast, cut those bananas into slices and put them over grain toast. Slather on some peanut butter and eat it with a glassful of skimmed milk or soy milk. In this way, you will eat more quantity of food and with a wider spectrum of nutrients.

3. Eat Nutrient-Dense Food.

Eating healthy food is always a smart option, but you also need to rack up your nutrition. For example, if we consider grapes, after drying them, they become raisins. Grapes are full of water, and when you let a cup of grapes dry, it turns into just a quarter cup of raisins. Thus, dried foods are considered as a healthy and dense option. But make sure you choose dry fruits without added sugar or preservatives. A few other examples are dark chocolate chips with minced dry fruits or peanut butter.

4. Try To Drink Your Food Rather Than Chewing.

As we all know, liquids aren’t as filling as compared to solid foods. Thus, they can help you consume more and also add up to the amount of nutrients that you take without making you feel overstuffed. Some of the best options are fruit juices (without extra sugar), skimmed milk, and smoothies with healthy ingredients.

5. Make It A Habit To Have Your Last Meal Right Before You Go To Bed.

Our body heals and regenerates cells while we are asleep. Eating healthy food just before going to bed ensures that there is a fresh supply of nutrients. A few excellent alternatives to eating at night are a bowl of whole grain pasta with a wrap of avocados, green leafy vegetables, lean meat, and cheese. Along with all these, make sure you get quality sleep. Do not indulge in smoking and other habits that are harmful for your health.

Weight gain can be a tedious process, but defnitely not unachievable. All you need to do is eat healthy and nutritious food and avoid unhealthy junk food.
