Just like we get fresh fashion trends every year, we get new ones in fitness and health too! With celebrity diets and exercises leading the brigade each year, there’s always some or the other new weight loss trick to look forward to. One that might as well just work for you! 2018 has been a particularly exciting year so far as we’ve seen the emergence of some really cool, barely time-consuming, and easy-to-follow trends in health and fitness. We picked out the top 9 for you!

1. Light Cardio

High-intensity cardio has been the norm, but in 2018, fitness experts recommend light cardio. Cardio exercises of low-intensity that take up about 30-60 minutes can help in burning fat while offering other benefits such as a reduction in weight, decrease in the chances of getting heart disease, improvement in the health of pre-diabetes patients, and increased muscle mass (1), (2), (3). You can try out slow cycling, swimming or yoga!

2. Golden Milk

Golden milk is prepared by adding turmeric to milk, which imparts it with a golden hue. You can mix turmeric in your ice cream, tea or latte to derive its benefits. Having turmeric regularly can save you from brain issues as it prevents neurons from getting destroyed (4).

Besides, turmeric can also prevent heart problems and rheumatoid arthritis and help deal with symptoms of depression (5), (6), (7). If you have trouble digesting turmeric, you can add black pepper to it (8). It helps increase turmeric’s effectiveness by 20 times!

3. Aerial Exercises

If you want to improve your stamina, coordination, and agility, aerial exercises are the one for you! You can try out several kinds of exercises that can transform the boring chore of working out into a magical one while helping you take the control you have over your body to the next level. Some of the exercises you can try out to spice up your workout routine are aerial hammock yoga, lyra, aerial silks, and pole dancing!

4. Organic Wine

For years, we’ve been hearing about the health benefits of red wine. But did you know that ordinarily brewed wine can harm your health? Grapes are quite dirty. So dirty, in fact, that 96% of them contain trace amounts of pesticides, which are definitely not health-friendly. However, grapes harvested for organically-brewed wine do not contain pesticides. Instead, they are rich in the antioxidant known as ‘resveratrol,’ which helps lower your BP, relieves joint pain, and even prevents cancer (9). You’ll find a green label on the bottle stating the wine is organic.

5. Adaptogens

Certain types of herbs that aid in stress reduction are known as adaptogens. Examples include goji berries, ginseng, ginger, and spirulina. Ayurvedic and Chinese medicines have been using adaptogens for stress relief for centuries! Besides stress reduction, adaptogens can also increase your concentration levels (especially when you’re tired) and improve your efficiency and mood (10), (11).

6. Natural Juice Soda Cans

Ask any health expert about regular soda and you’ll get the dirtiest look ever! However, though regular soda is scorned upon due its high-calorie content (30g of sugar in just 250ml!), fruit juice soda cans are being welcomed with open arms by health experts (12). Canned natural fruit juices without added sugar, aspartame or sodium are gaining popularity as refreshing drinks that come sans the side effects of their fizzy counterparts!

7. Vegetable Milk

People stop sipping on cow milk due to one or the other reason such as lactose intolerance, veganism or the preference for a healthier lifestyle (cow’s milk may contain pesticides and antibiotics) (13). But that doesn’t mean you should give up on milk altogether! Vegetable milk is a healthy alternative. For example, soy milk decreases the chances of you getting cardiovascular diseases as well as certain types of cancer, while almond milk leads to weight loss, and coconut milk reduces bad cholesterol levels (14), (15).

8. Black Beverages

By black beverages we mean those that contain activated charcoal. The presence of this substance in your drink can help flush out toxins from your body due to its absorbent nature, which attracts harmful substances (16). Activated charcoal can also improve kidney function, reduce bad cholesterol, and prevent depression and mood swings (17), (18), (19).

9. Healthy Burgers

Burgers and healthy? Not possible, right? Well, it is with the “Impossible Burger”! A creation of Silicon Valley-based Impossible Foods, this burger has all the flavour and appearance of a regular burger sans the meat (20). The meat patty is replaced with a vegetarian one made of soy, potato, wheat and coconut oil that is rich in protein and devoid of cholesterol to serve as a healthy snacking option.

Interesting ways to stay fit, aren’t they? And so easy to follow. We suggest you start off with the golden milk and light cardio exercises. However, don’t forget to consult your doctor before doing so!
