13 Unexpected Uses Of Conditioner You Probably Didn’t Know!
It’s often happened with me that in a rush of excitement to try out the latest and the greatest hair care products, I often end up with tons of extra, unused, and even half-used bottles lying around in the bathroom cabinet. And most of these are conditioner bottles. As you know, you’re only supposed to use a coin-sized amount of it, and finishing that big bottle entirely is really hard, especially when so many cool conditioners are launched almost every day.
I typically used to throw these out (what a waste, right?), but I’ve found out that they can be immensely useful, even if I don’t apply them on my hair! How, you ask? Well, today, I’m going to share with you 13 unique uses of conditioner that are going to blow your mind!
1. Use As Shaving Cream
Need to shave your hair for that date, but the shaving cream tube is empty? Just grab that bottle of conditioner and lather it onto your legs before the razor touches your skin. Using a conditioner will keep your skin smooth and prevent those nasty nicks.
2. Fix Creaky Hinges
You no longer need that foul-smelling WD-40 or any other chemical to fix the creaky hinges of your doors, windows, and cabinets. Just a coin-sized amount of conditioner will do the trick. Apply it to the hinges, and they’ll become as quiet as a church mouse!
3. Take The Bandage Off
Taking a sticky bandage off can be immensely painful. Not anymore! Applying conditioner to the area can ease the pain and even help you remove the bandage smoothly. All you have to is rub a generous amount of conditioner on the edges.
4. Dry Clean Your Unmentionables
This is a simple DIY dry cleaning technique for your delicates. Just fill up your sink with water that’s at room temperature and add a tablespoon of conditioner to it. Let them soak in it for a while, then rinse and hang them to dry.
5. Get Stuck Rings Off
Rings get too tight with time and can be impossible to remove. However, by rubbing a dollop of conditioner on the base and the top of your ring, you can get the tightest ring off. Remember to move the ring upward in circles to get it off.
6. Polish Stainless Steel
Your stainless steel appliances will look as good as new if you use conditioner to clean them the next time. Just add a blob of conditioner to your washcloth and rub.
7. Add It To Your Bath
As relaxing as it may be, soaking in the tub for a long time can dry your skin. Help your skin retain its natural moisture by adding a conditioner to your bath.
8. Clean Your Drains And Pipes
A few places that get clogged easily are the drains and pipes of your house. Instead of unclogging them with the help of professionals, save yourself some money by using your conditioner. Pour down a generous amount of conditioner through the drain, washing it down with hot water. That should do the trick.
9. Prevent Rusting
Certain metals tend to rust easily and ruin the look of your house. You can prevent that from happening by cleaning items such as tools, faucets, iron grills, etc. with a conditioner.
10. De-shrink Your Favorite Tee
Fair warning: This may or may not work, depending on the material used, but you can definitely try it out.
In a bucket of warm water, mix a tablespoon of conditioner and put your item of clothing in it, ensuring it’s entirely submerged. Now, try to stretch the item back to its original shape and size. Be gentle while you do so.
11. Use As A Fabric Softener
Take your washcloth and dampen it evenly with your conditioner. Toss this moistened cloth into the dryer with all your laundry. Your clothes will come out fluffy and soft.
12. Or As A Fabric Freshener
If you’re the kind who likes to wear the same item more than once without washing it, but can’t stand the smell it emits after being worn, this one’s for you. Keep your clothes smelling as fresh as daisies with a DIY conditioner fabric softener. Add nine parts of water to one part of conditioner in a spray bottle. Shake and use.
13. Soften Your Cuticles
Conditioners are excellent cuticle creams if you ask me. Just dab a little conditioner on your cuticles and rub it gently to soften them up before you start your pedicure or manicure session.
Try these uses of conditioner for yourself, and I bet you won’t be disappointed. Now, your extra conditioner bottles will finish faster than the one you use for your hair!
