Since Mother’s Day is right around the corner, you are probably wondering what to do to make this day memorable for your mother. If you aren’t isolating with your parents and live away from them, fret not. There are plenty of ways in which you can celebrate this day with your mother without having to be in the same room as us. Right now, the most important thing is that your mother and you are both safe. With these ideas, you can avoid being in physical touch with her while still celebrating the day just as you would on any other Mother’s Day. So here is a list of 11 fun activities you can do for and with your mother while maintaining a safe distance:

1. Gather Virtually

As much as you would want to run into your mother’s arms and give her a big hug, it may not be possible at the moment. However, you can still spend time with her via FaceTime, Zoom, or any other virtual chat rooms. Just as you’ve spent time with your friends over the phone, you can make time for the same with your mother. You could share a drink virtually, play online games and even watch movies together.

2. Virtual Bake-Off

If you and your mother are both fans of cooking/baking, you can challenge her to a virtual bake-off/cook-off. Since most cities have e-commerce stores open, you can even order the materials for her and agree on a standard recipe. What better way to spend Mother’s Day virtually than learning a few tips and advice from your mother?

3. Have Flowers Delivered

One fantastic way to celebrate Mother’s Day is by having a bouquet of flowers delivered to your mother. Even if you cannot order flowers online, you can deliver the bouquet yourself and leave it outside her front door if you live close to your mother. Or if you have friends who live in the same city as your mother, you could even ask them to help you out!

4. Order Her Breakfast In Bed

Eating breakfast in bed has been a wonderful staple for Mother’s Day for a long time. If you cannot personally deliver your mother breakfast in bed, you can order her a nice meal from her favorite restaurant. We guarantee that she will appreciate the gesture!

5. Take Care Of A Project Around Her House

One of the nicest things you can do for your mother is to help her out around her house. Of course, you don’t necessarily have to be in the house to do the work. If your mother has a garden or tends to plants, you can help out in that area. You must ensure you’re maintaining a safe distance from her and taking the right kind of precautions.

6. Send Your Mom Her Favorite Wine Or Other Beverage

If your mother is a fan of alcohol and enjoys drinking wine, you can send her a nice bottle of wine or another drink of her choice. If she is a teetotaler, you can order a nice mocktail kit for her online.

7. Make A Donation To Her Favorite Charity

Since the pandemic has had a drastic effect on all of our lives and so many people have suffered in terms of finances, now is the best time to reach out to charities and try to help out. If your mother has a particular cause that she is passionate about, you can contribute to a charity of her choice in her name.

8. Make A Slideshow

Mom’s love reminiscing about the good old days when you were a small child and a mini version of them. So what better way than to make an adorable slideshow for your mother, right? You can compile some of the best moments you shared with your mother into a slideshow and surprise her with it.

9. Play An Online Game

If your mom is a fan of board games, she’ll most definitely be interested in playing some games virtually. Playing a virtual game is a great way to get the whole family involved and active. Even if your siblings are in different parts of the world, you can all get together with your parents and have a family game night. Some multiplayer games you can consider are Backgammon, Checkers, Code Names, and Charades.

10. Get Together From A Safe Distance

If you really do want to meet your mother in person and spend the day with her, there are plenty of ways you can do so safely. You can drive past her house and celebrate with her, or you can even try meeting up for an outdoor activity (while maintaining distance and also wearing masks and other protective gear). As long as you keep a safe distance, you can have tonnes of fun!

11. Create Your Own Paint Night

Give your creative side a boost by having a paint night with your mom! Painting is one of the most therapeutic and calming activities you can partake in. Even if both you and your mother are newbies and don’t have much experience in painting, you can find plenty of YouTube tutorials to help set the right mood. You can order painting supplies, send some to your mother, set up a video chat, and screen-share the tutorial. By the end of it, you will both have a unique art piece!

When it’s all said and done, all mothers really want is to hear from their kids and spend some quality time with them, whether virtually or in person. As sad as it may be that you cannot give your mom that hug she desires, at least you can make her day special while maintaining some distance.
