We Indians love to shop. And we swear by this mantra whilst we are at it — “sasta aur tikau,” which translates to fashionable and affordable. However, often times, we can’t really follow this mantra because the world around us is only getting expensive with every ticking minute. And this makes being fashionable and penny-wise at the same time an impossible task to master.

According to us, the right way to go about it would be to first evaluate your wardrobe. Raid your own wardrobe and make an analysis report about what needs to be out of the door, what need to be replaced, and what needs to be recycled and transformed into something more useful. Once you are done with cleaning and organizing your wardrobe, you can sit and look at the section of clothes that can be reused and redesigned into something more fashionable. And if you’re wondering how on earth you could achieve that, well, grab some fashion magazines and go through them. There are plenty of DIY tutorials that will guide you through this fashionable journey, you can find them online. Go through them in your free time and identify your fashion style. Meanwhile, we’ve laid out some low-cost tricks and tips to give those old duds of your wardrobe, a new life. Read on and try them.

1. Add Drama To Your T-shirts With Stickers

Yeah! It’s as simple as that. We all have at least one or two t-shirts in our wardrobe which we just don’t want to get rid of. Our friends, our love interests, and even our parents get fed up of seeing us in them repeatedly. If given a chance, they’d just throw it into a trash can and pretend like they never existed in the first place. So what do you do to get their eyes off your beloved, adored t-shirt? You give your t-shirt a makeover.

For that, we suggest you go to the nearest craft store and pick up those iron-on adhesives with which you can stick your favorite stickers or those blingy patches which are available in the stores near you.

If you’re an artist, then grab a sketch pen or a paintbrush and draw something of your own on your t-shirt. It would be a unique piece, that’s truly yours!

2. Add Lace To Your T-shirt With Iron-On Hem Tape

A lace top, a lace dress — these tiny lace details can make any garment stand out, don’t you think? Take out your boring top or t-shirt and add some iron-on hem tape. Either cut out a nice moon or heart at the back of your t-shirt and replace it with lace. Or you could add the lace borders around the neck of your t-shirt and amp it up.

3. Revamp Your Denim

If you’re bored of your old pair of jeans and want to give it a makeover, then, consider doing this: male markings on the legs of the jeans and cut the legs off to make it into denim shorts. Once that is done, pick a nice lace or a crochet border and attach it to the hems of your shorts. Either stitch it up or use iron tape to attach it. The end result will leave you with a very peppy pair of denim shorts which can be worn on a casual day outing or to the beach.

4. Shrug Your Scarf

All that you’ll need for this is a scarf (the one that you no longer intend to cover your head with, but it has a good pattern on it) and some fabric glue. Just wear the scarf around you like a shrug. Then, glue the sides up so that it stays together. It’s as simple as that! This will leave you with a cool shrug which you can take along with you the next time you hit the beach.

5. Tie And Dye Your Old Dress

If you have a dress which has faded, but you don’t want to throw because it fits you perfectly and makes your figure look slender, then you should consider tie-dye. You’ll find organic color dyes in the nearest craft store, so pick your favorite color. Take the dress you want to dye. With the help of a thread, tie knots on your dress. Mix the dye in water as per instructions and soak your dress in it overnight. The next day, remove your dress from the dye water, squeeze out the excess liquid, remove the knots and leave it for drying. You now have a DIY dyed dress for yourself.

6. Knot Your T-shirts

If you are bored of wearing t-shirts the normal way, then we suggest you wear it the knotty way (pun intended). Just like how it’s shown in the image above. Tie a knot at the waist and slide one side of the t-shirt down to give it an off-shoulder effect. Pair it with high waist shorts or jeans and look like a pop queen.
