Positive Things That Happen to Your Body After One Workout

If you have just started working out recently, then you’re probably wondering what one workout session can do to your body. And while it may seem like a baby step, even just one workout can impact your health. We have been told that in order to see the visible results of our workout routine, we have to wait a few weeks, at least. But this does not mean a single workout has no benefits. In fact, just one workout has a multitude of benefits to your body. Here are a few to help motivate you to keep going!

1. Generally Good For Your Body

Regularly exercising has been shown to promote health, wellness, and lifespan. Exercise is good for the heart and can help promote better cardiovascular health. In one study, it was found that men and women who were physically active on a regular basis were less likely to be prone to cardiovascular diseases (1). Engaging in less than an hour of physical exercise has been found to have a 52% increase in mortality. People who worked out were less likely to suffer from premature death.

Body image is the manner in which the person perceives his/her physical and emotional self. Body image is related to the thoughts people have of themselves. It has been found that people who exercise tend to have more positive thoughts about themselves (2). There are also surprisingly a lot more motivated when it comes to carrying out tasks of importance. There were more likely to eat better and healthier and be cautious of what they consume (3). Therefore, people who worked out felt better about their bodies and appearance. This could really help them feel more satisfied.

It has been found that physical exercise has the power to induce certain structural and functional changes in the brain. These changes, in turn, have positive effects on the mental and psychological state of the person (4). It has been found that physical exercise has the power to improve cognitive functioning in both adults as well as children. It can also help lower the risk of developing age-related disorders such as dementia. Physical exercise is truly a win-win for people of all ages (5).

It has been found that exercise is extremely beneficial to our mental health (6). Physical exercise can improve self-esteem and cognitive functioning. It has also been found that exercise can reduce anxiety, depression, and negative thoughts and feelings (7). It helps ease the symptoms of isolation and can boost a person’s mood. This could explain why, after you work out, you feel a lot happier. Exercise is also a great stress buster and helps reduce tiredness and exhaustion.

Even just an hour of exercise can help you feel a lot less stressed and tense. Studies have shown that regular exercise has been linked to lower sympathetic nervous system and hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis reactivity (8). These are the parts of the brain that plays a crucial role when it comes to responding to physical and psychological stressors. Physical exercise helps lower the hormones related to stress and helps produce feel-good hormones that are responsible for us feeling more relaxed and at ease.

6. Helps With The Prevention And Management Of Diseases

If you are someone who suffers from chronic diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, joint pain, asthma, or back pain, then physical exercise can really come in handy. Exercise can not just improve overall health but also help manage symptoms related to these disorders. Training can also improve muscle strength and endurance. This, in turn, will make it a lot easier for you to cope with routine tasks. Exercise also helps improve flexibility, which in turn will help your muscles and joints function better. Exercise can help reduce blood pressure for people suffering from high blood pressure. Exercising regularly can make the insulin produced by your body more effectively, and that’s why exercise is great for people who have diabetes (9).

7. Improves Sleep

For a lot of us, falling asleep may seem impossible. If you have ever spent sleepless nights tossing and turning, then its time you started exercising. Regular exercise can both help you fall asleep faster and also improve the quality of your sleep (10). The trick, however, is not to schedule your workouts to close to your bedtime. The best time to work out is in the morning, and the best place to work out is outdoors.

Exercising is a great way to remain healthy and fit. If you’re someone who does not exercise regularly, then it is time you went outdoors and got those muscles working. You will begin to feel the difference after just one workout.
